Monopoly Token Madness ends 1/31, #MonopolyVote, #SaveScottie

January 31, 2017 is the last day to vote and this is an election where your vote really matters. It’s OK to be aggressively pro-candidate or anti-top hat, because this is all about Monopoly. Monopoly has opened up the fate of all their tokens to the internet. It’s like the Highlander, times 8, for there can be only 8 in #MonopolyVote.

Monopoly, save Scottie, Scottie, token

Simply go to their website and you’ll be shown all of the various tokens that people can choose from. Some of them you’ll recognize and have fond feelings for, like Scottie Dog, as well as other tokens that you’ll be hard pressed to remember.

The top 8 vote winners will be announced on March 13.

Vote today and #SaveScottie

Build It! books, simple steps to get kids past the ‘kit’ stage of LEGO

You’ve seen some books about LEGO like this. They help you build creatures, ships, cars, landscapes or other works of art. The difference in these Build It! books is that they’re geared for younger LEGO fans and have one key thing that other building books do not have.

Playtime with PJ Masks

We received product for review-all thoughts are our own. The fabulous thing about some children’s shows is that, if you time it correctly they can ride the wave from pre-k through elementary school. For us a perfect example of this is Octonauts. Our (now 7 year old) son started watching them when he was 3 and still enjoys them.  Consequently, he has almost every Octonauts toy made, had birthday parties for them and has seen the stage show. His younger brother was the first of the two to latch onto PJ Masks. He started watching that show when he was 3 and has amassed a small fleet of Cat Cars, Gekko Mobiles and Owl Gliders.

Max Cliff Climber, a real toy truck with bite

Max Cliff Climber is one of the toys that our 5 year old wanted when we went to the toy store to research our gift guide. It’s a large truck with monster wheels. Really, the rear wheels open up to expose teeth when it climbs things or uses torque. It also has attitude and a sense of dry humor as part of the narration when it’s talking to you.

This is a big toy and its packaging is such that if you’re giving it as a gift you should plan ahead. Getting Max Cliff Climber out of the box will take a couple of minutes. Additionally, the toy is powered with a temporary battery pack that you need to remove prior to playing with it. Simply use a Phillips screwdriver put 6 C size batteries in the bottom of the truck and power it up.

The Kano computer kit that kids build, code and play

It’s not a challenge to get a child interested in computers. The games, interactivity, visuals and sounds make it a natural attraction for kids to want to play with them. However, parents know the difference between productive play, time wasting play and play that can be a combination of both-or even more. The Kano computer kit takes that into consideration and has its main goal as being a solution to making computers fun, approachable and something that kids can build from the ground up. In short, for some children, the Kano computer kit will be a game changer in how they interact with technology, data and their future.

The Epik Learning Tab fails to measure up to its name

As the parent to two kids who love (and need) technology we do love tablets. We were provided with an Epik Learning tab to review and have the kids try it out. In the house we have a couple iPads, a Kindle, Amazon Fire and a kid’s Samsung tablet that stopped working about a year after we reviewed it. In short, we have a couple tablets and know how kids (and adults) will utilize them. So how did the Epik Tablet stack up?

PJ Masks toys and crafts for the kids: review

Hey, we’re a PJ Masks Ambassador and received these for review. All thoughts are our own. Ode to be a pre-k through early elementary school student. It’s a magical time of the year for toys and games, general merriment and occasional not listening to parents. We were sent some cool PJ Masks toys and activities to play with. Here’s what our 5 and 7 year old thought of them.

First up we look at “To The Cat-Car” book. It’s a board book that has Catboy giving a guided tour of the Cat-Car. As the pages are thicker, it accommodates the wheels on the bottom of the book that provide the imagination some spark for kids to create their own Cat-Car.

PJ Masks, here to save the (Christmas) day

We’re a PJ Masks Ambassador and received compensation or product for this post. All thoughts are our own. To the elementary school set, PJ Masks is their jam. Every friend that our 7 year old has over to play is immediately drawn to his PJ Masks stuff. Now that the show is a hugely popular Disney Jr. program the full gamut of toys, games and activities are hitting stores.

Some of these products arrived at our house as a happy coincidence when some of their friends were here to play.  “Stop-I must take photos of everything”, the visiting kids must’ve thought that dad was just a snap-happy photo freak. However, our children knew the deal and calmly told their friends that they could play with them after I took a picture-at which time they told me to take the pictures ASAP.
