The Fisher-Price Octonauts Octopod Playset provides hours of free play fun

Prior to receiving the Octonauts Octopod Playset to review we hadn’t seen the show.  I was aware of it, but hadn’t seen an episode of it.  Since our oldest has been playing with the Octonauts Octopod Playset he’s been sounding the Octo Alert, rescuing various sea critters and wondering why this show isn’t available on Roku.   Parents who are down with the Octonauts know what I’m speaking about the others will discover it when their child is about 3 or 4.

Giving things from the Heart of Haiti this Christmas holiday

The fourth anniversary of the Haitian earthquake is approaching.  In January 2010 200,000-300,000 people were killed and almost 1.3 million were displaced.  As a member of the Everywhere Society they informed me about a project called Heart of Haiti that partners with Macy’s in supporting local Haitian artists.

Danger in the Manger disappoints all, even the diehard Whovians

Danger in the Manger is the sequel to Nativity!.   I never saw Nativity!, but it must have been good enough to merit a sequel, right?  They would never make a sequel to a Christmas movie just because it’s a seasonal movie, would they?  This is the story of a Christmas song competition, a class of regular students with a jokey teacher that gets into the finals, the pretentious yet well meaning class of talented singers and a class representing the ones that win every year.  Think of it as Christmas themed episode of Glee with elements of The Bad News Bears tossed in for comedic effect.

Children will love the Bigsby Interactive Story Buddy from Hallmark

As a gift the other year we gave one of the Hallmark interactive story characters to a friend’s child who had just turned 6.  The child loved the gift but I didn’t really get it.  Now that we have a child who is on the cusp of reading, I get it.  The Bigsby Interactive Story Buddy is another avenue for kids to enjoy reading and it really works.

The Descender from Rockboard #Giveaway #BPopEvents

As part of the Blog Pop Team we’re giving away some really cool stuff this Christmas holiday season.  I reviewed the Descender from Rockboard and am really excited be able to give one of these away.  The Descender is an all terrain skateboard, intended for ages 8 and up that is really fun to operate.  Fun is really an understatement as I was grinning for a couple of hours after I used it.

Alphablock is the best book to teach the alphabet we’ve seen

Uh oh, that title has a lot to live up to.  We have about 8 books upstairs that are solely dedicated to teaching small children the alphabet.  Is Alphablock really the best book to teach the alphabet that we have seen?  Yes, its size, simplicity, vivid graphics and more make it great for kids and enjoyable for the adults.

Muddy Paws’ New Friends and Bunny Loves to Read, book review

One of the great things about being a parent is re-reading your favorite children’s books to your children.  Of course another great thing is discovering new books that will become their favorites that they’ll read to their children.  Along the way though, you’ll discover what I call library, or stock books that won’t be elevated to the status of an heirloom.  They’re entertaining for what they are, and they might become some child’s favorite book, but just weren’t enjoyed by your child.  Muddy Paws’ New Friends by Steve Smallman and Simon Mendez and Bunny Loves to Read by Peter Bently and Deborah Melmon are in that category.

The NYNE NB-200 Bluetooth Speaker: easy set up, great sound

We received a NYNE NB-200 Bluetooth Speaker for review purposes.  It’s a Bluetooth speaker and the company really wants you to know that it can be mounted to your bicycle handlebars.  A Bluetooth speaker wasn’t something that was on the top of Tech Gadgets I Need list.  However, after using it for a while I’ve discovered that, the sound from my tablet’s speakers are horrible and that the NYNE is a fabulous tool to make and receive phone calls on.
