The Deep is a three issue mini-series about a family exploring the deep parts of the ocean in a state of the art submarine. It’s sharply drawn, has realistic family members that young readers will easily relate to and the first issue had enough action to keep boys interested. The Deep: Here Be Dragons #2 doesn’t have as much overall action, but does maintain the series momentum to an extent. Continue reading The Deep: Here Be Dragons #2, loses steam, still a good comic for children

Too Much Coffee Man Favorites #3 is gleefully manic
Somewhere aligned with the single pane of The Far Side and the four panes of Life in Hell sits Too Much Coffee Man. The nonlinear humor in Too Much Coffee Man is similar to Far Side, yet it has the same recurring characters, much like Life in Hell. Is Too Much Coffee Man funny? You bet, it was one of the first independent comics I purchased in the early 2000’s and still packs buckets of wit with sublime, detailed illustrations. The Kitchen Witch is great, comic book fun for kids
I love to read. I’ve always loved to read and it was comic books that introduced me into the fact that reading is fun. That totally sounds like a PSA, but it’s true. I still read comic books, but, as a child I started reading easy reader comics like Spidey, and, to a lesser extent, Richie Rich. Thus, as a dad, I’m on the hunt for easy reader books that children will love. If your child is into fantasy adventure they will love The Kitchen Witch and here is why.
