Peanuts #24 is how an old school cartoon should age

There is this new all age comic book called “Peanuts”.  It’s the story of a group of kids, a friendly dog who thinks that he’s a fighter pilot and a curious yellow bird named after a 60’s rock concert.  Of course you’ve heard of Peanuts before, it’s a 60 year old comic strip that’s been made into holiday specials, numerous book and is classic.  What is surprising is how well-and effective the new stories in the Peanuts comic book are for new readers or old school fans.

New all age comic books for Wednesday, December 17, 2014

It’s new comic book day and here’s a look at the new all age comic books being released today.   Our top 4 this week are Jim Henson’s The Storyteller Witches #4, McBain, Peanuts #44 and Terrible Lizard #2.

We classify all age comic books as something anyone could read and not find violent, scary or otherwise inappropriate. Some of these titles might be rude and you wouldn’t want your kids reading it yet, like Mad Magazine, but that’s only because some of the humor there might be smarmy or rude.

About the links in the comic titles.  They’ll take you to Things From Another World and will save you about 20% on each title.  If you want to get them today then find your closest comic book store, take the kids and get their imaginations, reading and vocabulary up to the stars and beyond.

Scooby-Doo Where Are You? #52 review, like..skip this caper

Scooby-Doo is classic and timeless.  Readers of a certain generation will always associate Shaggy to Casey Kasem and it’s only logical that the comic book should be timeless.   And in part, Scooby-Doo Where Are You is great for an all age comic book, but it also feels like something is lacking.

Guinness World Records 2015 Gamer’s Edition review and giveaway

I’m a gamer, but not a gamer per se.  I like to play video games, but aren’t very good at the newer ones. However, I grew up with the classic video games; they’ll always have a place in my heart and I could still probably beat 75% of people reading this on Robotron.  It’s because of my staunch old-school settings that I was surprised that I enjoyed reading Guinness World Records 2015 Gamer’s Edition.

Planet Gigantic #3 balances action, monsters & more for all ages

Planet Gigantic is a four issue mini-series from Action Lab Entertainment.  It’s the story of Valentina and Yuri, siblings who were exploring space with their mother.  The two have crashed landed on a strange planet and are meeting all manner of strange creatures and people they should, or shouldn’t trust.   In the latest issue Yuri is separated from his sister and in the den of a giant creature who they thought was bad, but just might be good.  Meanwhile Valentina and Lyana are locked in combat with a massive centipede.  If that seems like a lot to fit into a comic remind yourself that this is an all age comic that anyone can read and it’s all the more amazing.

Batman ’66 #17 is campy fun that kids will like

If you’ve seen any of the classic episodes of the Batman TV series you know that it has a certain feel to it.  The dialogue is campy, the action is stilted when compared to today’s series and Batman has a much more casual feel to him than today’s superhero.  Batman ’66 is just like the show.  At times it looks like the comic is drawn exactly from old episodes.  They’re not mind you, all of the Batman ’66 comics are original, but do feature some of the villains who never made the cut to modern times, like King Tut.

Looney Tunes #222 is classic, true to form as you remember

As with The Simpsons, in our quest to find great all age comic books we sometimes look over the obvious.  Back in the day I purchased Looney Tunes #1 and while the layout has changed a bit the humor and all age appropriateness is still spot on.  It’s rated E for everyone and this is a classic for the parents or a way to teach younger readers about how it’s done.
