New all age comics for Wednesday May 27, 2015

New comic book day is every Wednesday and this week there are some really nice all age comics in the mix this week. These are the comics that are appropriate for young readers and don’t have any mature or adult themes. This week have included Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. These comics have lots of action, but are OK for any age reader. Obviously you don’t want your child to mimic any of the ninja moves, so just be aware that all of these comics aren’t kittens and butterflies-and that’s a good thing.

This week we’re really pumped about the new Sonic Universe as it kicks off the Mega Man crossover event this summer. Garfield, Batman, Spider-Man, Adventure Time and Bart Simpson also make an appearance in their new comics this week.

The links will take you to TFAW (Things From Another World) where you’ll save at least 10% on comics. If you want to get them the day that they come out then follow this link to find the comic book shop closest to you.

Usagi Yojimbo #145, detail rich, indie cred and all age comic awesome

This was our first introduction to Usagi Yojimbo for sale and for good reason because the comic was on a three year break. Welcome back and it’s a great time to discover this fabulous comic that is an example of what an all age comic should be. Usagi Jimbo is a 2015 Eisner Award Nominee and one of NPR’s best books in 2014. After checking out this one issue it’s easy to see why it has garnered such acclaim.

Coming Home, a mostly picture book for military families and more

If you’ve been through any airport you know the scene. Behind the rope are some family members with signs waiting for their friend, spouse or neighbor coming home from armed service. A new picture book takes a look at that scene in a mostly wordless book that will resonate with any parent or person who has served.

Coming Home Cover

Coming Home is a simple book that uses its words sparingly. It does have plenty of images where soldiers are greeting pregnant wives, newborn children and family members. The art in Coming Home is lush, detailed and very effective.

The main character is a boy who is roaming the crowd looking for his parent. Coming Home is a great example of letting the art in a children’s book breathe. In this case the illustrations have plenty of room to work with given that there are very few words in the book. Coming Home is a children’s book that will work great with military families or those parents that travel often.

Gorillas In Our Midst: big plans, average outcome

The biggest thing you’ll immediately notice about Gorillas In Our Midst is its size. This is one big book.  It’s so much larger than other children’s books that you’ll subconsciously assume that it’s that much better. Gorillas In Our Midst is the story of a young boy who is trying to convince people that gorillas are everywhere, hiding in plain sight.

New All Age Comic Comic Books for May 20, 2015

This is a great week for all age comic books because it marks the return of two classics, a camp classic, a modern classic and lots of new comics for young readers. Our favorite book of the week is Simpson’s Summer Shindig, closely followed by Peanuts, Usagi Yojimbo and Lumberjanes.

The two classics this week are Donald Duck #1 and Pogo.  An argument could be made for Groo: Friends and Foes as being the classic (and if you grew up with Mad Magazine-then yes it is), but that’s a post for another day. Lumberjanes is a great book that will appeal more to young girls than boys and #14 from that great series comes out this week.

There is also the camp classic Saved By The Bell coming to tradepaper back with updated adventures from Bayside’s most timeless.

The links will take you to Things From Another World where you’ll save a big % on any order. If you need to get to your local comic book store now just follow the link and you’ll get there.

New All Age Comic Books for Wednesday, May 13, 2015

There is a really great variety of all age comic books new this week.  For the classic readers the new Uncle Scrooge #2 is out, Scooby-Doo Where Are You?,  as are three different Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle books for young readers to shell up on.

Action readers will wan to get the final issue of Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy. This is the fourth issue of the all ages version of Guardians of the Galaxy based on the Disney XD show.

We’re pumped about Mouse Guard Legends of the Guard Volume 3, #3. The art in this series is fabulous for all ages, it’s realistic, scale sized action with great stories about mice doing extraordinary things.  Our oldest is most excited about SpongeBob #44. If you’ve only seen the cartoon then you owe it to yourself to check out the comic.  It’s funny, great for anyone and priced at only $2.99.

We’ve played with the layout this week.  It’s friendlier to people that actually want to get a peek at the artwork going on in these all age comics.  They also give you a little more verbiage as to what your young reader can expect if they read it. The links will take you to Things From Another World and will save you 10% or more on comics.  If you want to head out to your local comic book store and pick these up today then dig the link, find out where yours is located and get your kids reading some all age comic books.

Whose Tools? isn’t just for DIY kids, but it helps

Our children immediately identified with Whose Tools?,  a new children’s book that teaches them 24 tools and the professions that use them. The book is surprisingly detailed, features six different contractors, like a mason, carpenter or plumber and has thick pages with simple words that are great for young children.

Vegetables in Underwear is ridiculous, potty training fun

So, our youngest is 3 and knows that he should use the potty, but doesn’t most of the time.  He’ll use it just prior to bath time, but won’t tell us during the day if he has to go.  Vegetables in Underwear is a silly book about vegetables, in underwear and being ridiculously happy about it.  A large piece of broccoli strips down to their red underwear and runs across the pages where they meet their other vegetables wearing underwear.
