All age comic books for September 28

It’s almost one month before Halloween Comicfest, plan ahead for that because it is lots of fun. This week in all age comic books it’s a great week for Disney comic books. Specifically, Joe Books has Darkwing Duck, Disney Frozen, Disney Pixar Finding Dory, Disney Princess and Disney Pirates of the Caribbean. All of those comic books are only $2.99 also, so it’s a great value too.

Star Wars, star wars golden books, Over the garden wall, munchkin, moon girl, doctor who, joe books, unbeatable squirrel girl, future quest, Scooby doo, pink panther, peanuts, josie & the pussycats, Garfield, dory, frozen, darkwing duck, comic books, all age comic books

There are a couple comic books this week that are better geared at slightly older readers who are 9 and older. Future Quest #5 is a fun comic that bring in some classic Hanna Barbara characters, it also has lots of reading and is plot centric. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #2 is a new turtle title that might be too realistic for those younger than 10. Godzilla Rage Across Time #2 has some great art and realistic violence, but again is appropriate for ages 10 and up. There are also a couple Doctor Who comic books out this week. These books are great, but are too complex for those under 9.

Do you have an upper elementary or middle school girl who is looking for something? Check out Heavenly Nostrils Chronicle graphic novel from Razzle Dazzle Unicorn. That age group will also like Jonesy trade paperback, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl are among some of the cool all age comic books out this week that really speak to young girls.

All young readers will absolutely love Star Wars I Am Little Golden Books Library. It’s a chance to share Star Wars books for kids of any age. Elementary ages and up are able to read them and anyone will like looking at the art.

Where is my closest comic book store? The music you hear in the podcast is from Dlay, over at Free Music Archives. Did you check out the podcast? If so-can you give it a rating on whichever provider you heard it on? Next week: we’ll take a look at the Halloween Comicfest books, these are the books that you can give out to trick or treeters and cost .25 each, what a deal!

Mooncop, is smart, wry, droll humor from Tom Gauld

Glib and droll are fraternal adjectives in the same family that are worlds apart. Glib is not funny. Droll is a curious joke that usually takes its time and is as dry as the surface of the moon. Mooncop is droll. It’s a great example of how to describe ‘dry’ in reference to a joke or sense of humor. This is the latest from Tom Gauld, a fabulously witty cartoonist whose foot print is similar to Matt Groening’s Life In Hell, mixed with Gary Larson’s The Far Side and The Oatmeal.

Monty The Dinosaur, a happy, must-see all ages comic book

Sometimes things get missed. Monty The Dinosaur from Action Lab Entertainment is a comic book that was on our radar, but somehow we missed its release date. Well, it came out the other week and it is utterly fabulous. Monty The Dinosaur has the soul of a comic strip in the packaging of a comic book.  It delivers laughs for younger kids and has the timeless appeal that older readers will immediately recall from their favorite newspaper comic strips.

Monty The Dinosaur is just that, a dinosaur living in modern times trying to fit in. He tries silly disguises like fake moustaches in his effort to blend into society so that he can make friends. Unfortunately for him he’s huge, sneezes and proceeds to scare people off when they realize he’s a dinosaur.

A photo review of Dragon Con, part 1

Dragon Con happens in Atlanta every Labor Day Weekend. It is a ‘con’ in every fan based sense of the word and then some. After speaking with reporters who cover Cons like this across the country I learned that Dragon Con has the biggest and best reputation for its cosplay. Cosplay is a shortened and combined word for ‘costume’ and ‘play’. There is an example of every costume based level on display at Dragon Con, from the low tech folks who simply cut up a cardboard box to those that created movie caliber makeup, costume and performance to sell the look.

Here are some of our favorite photos that capture the spirit of Dragon Con, the families, attendees and fun to be had.  Some of these photos were taken during the Dragon Con Parade while others were taken around the hotels.

Children’s music, kindie and Beat Bugs of note on Netflix

We’re were compensated for this post. All thoughts are our own. Our kids have loved music since birth. As parents we’ve also been aware of the content that is in that music. Sure there will be a time when radio with its suggestive, violent or misogynistic lyrics will be a part in their lives, but that time is a couple years away. There are some cool avenues for music that are appropriate for children on Netflix. One show of note is Beat Bugs, a series that is intended for younger children and features some Beatles’ cover songs.

Adventure Time Comics #1, mixed up art and Land of Oooh fun

We’re big fans of Spongebob Comics. One reason we like that comic book so much is that it features different artists and their distinctive styles in each issue. It’ll have a couple of stories, each one having a different look and feel, despite having the same character backbone. Adventure Time Comics offers creators the chance to interpret Jake, Finn, Ice King and others in their own particular way and for fans of the television series or comic book the results are one that they’ll want to discover.
