A Father First by Dwayne Wade misses a layup

I’m a dad that is not a sports fan.  I know the big names, but I don’t have any idea what position they play or how their last game was.  Dwayne Wade is a superstar basketball player with the Miami Heat.  If you’re like me you thought that he was a character from A Different World.  “A Father First” is his life story that takes readers from his impoverished beginnings in Chicago to living the high life in Miami.  Continue reading A Father First by Dwayne Wade misses a layup

Dad reads Star Wars-Crimson Empire III Empire Lost

Star Wars, Crimson Empire III: Empire Lost is the long awaited sequel to Crimson Empire II.  Long awaited can be a mixed blessing.  Is it long awaited because fans lost interest, it wasn’t good enough to merit a quick release or the company is pushing it?  In the Star Wars universe some things take time and this delayed sequel is a result of story changes and schedules not due to demand. Kirby: Genesis Vol. 1, trade paperback-Review

I received the PDF for this graphic novel just over a month ago.  I read it in a couple of days and have procrastinated reviewing it because every time I opened it to review it I couldn’t stop reading or looking at the art.  Granted I’m somewhat easily distracted (look-a kitten!), but Genesis sucked me into an old school comic world I haven’t seen in a while. The weak men and women of The Week The Women Went

Last week I reviewed a new 5 episode series on Lifetime called The Week The Women Went.  As a television show it’s watchable, but very far from enjoyable. The concept behind the show is interesting, but in the end it’s just a mess.  It’s rare that commentary is done on Daddy Mojo, but being from the south and having been on reality TV, a voice of reason and logic needed to step in.  Continue reading The weak men and women of The Week The Women Went

A Dad watches The Week The Women Went

The Week The Women Went is a five episode series on Lifetime about a small town in South Carolina that sends the women out of town for a week.  Lifetime is a network on cable whose target audience is women.  Having said that I’ve been to the network once or twice, but it was to watch something starring Jennifer Love Hewitt. Four reasons why The Hulk is just like Dad

As a Dad and lifelong comic book guy I can see parts of my personality in most characters.  The character that most likely fits my personality now is The Hulk.  As a dad the farther down the parenting road I go the more I realize that The Hulk is also a great encapsulation of all things Dad. Continue reading Four reasons why The Hulk is just like Dad

Power Rangers Super Samurai: Black Box & Showdown review

Our kids are too young to enjoy the Power Rangers. At almost 3 and 1 they’re much simpler, so to properly review these DVDs I called in a diverse group of kids who ranged from 5-11. I watched the videos also, but I sense that the Power Rangers are vying for my wallet and not my critical opinion. Continue reading Power Rangers Super Samurai: Black Box & Showdown review
