Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi, Volume 1 collects the five issue mini-series and takes place 25,000 years before the Jedi that we’ve seen in the movies. Think of it as a world where the Force and Jedi’s are known, but it’s a more innocent place where the players are still figuring things out. Cirque du Soleil’s TOTEM is graceful, dangerous fun
The genius of Peter Sellers playing Inspector Clouseau was that the actor was indeed quite intelligent; but the character was an inept, bumbling police officer. My wife summed up what was so amazing about TOTEM, the current Cirque show, in a way that complimented the clowns and made me think of Sellers. Nine songs to play at my wake
For the record I don’t want to die, nor do I currently have a life threatening illness. However, from the lifetime (pardon the pun) of special events that I’ve planned and attended I know that our final special event may be lacking something. Continue reading Nine songs to play at my wake
Swifter: Man Up is clever, funny, great advertising aimed at men
America loves a good comeback story. Back when the Olympics were on television there was a series of commercials with the tag line ‘Thank you, Mom. P&G, Proud Sponsor of Moms’. Prior to that there was the whole Pampers, so easy a dad can do it campaign. Personally, neither campaign spoke to me in a negative or positive light. The second one was a bad ad campaign and the first had a bad tag line, but I could understand who they were aiming for. Frankenweenie is a fun, silly movie that has an old soul
Frankenweenie is the story about young Victor whose dog, Sparky is brought back to life using electricity. Once Sparky comes back to life things go horribly awry for the city, as well as, Victor’s family and friends. Sure the plot sounds familiar, but this is a Tim Burton movie, shot in black and white and it’s in 3D. Continue reading Frankenweenie is a fun, silly movie that has an old soul
I’m getting old: The evolution of tool to a Dad
Getting older is natural and I love it. I embrace aging and the strengths that it provides you-like advanced wisdom or the ability not to be carded for alcohol. One barometer of aging that I didn’t realize would be a factor is the word “tool”. Over the years “tool” has been a band, an adjective, a noun and lacey-frilly things that get wrapped around the house on special occasions. Continue reading I’m getting old: The evolution of tool to a Dad
Hotel Transylvania is not worth checking into
Hotel Transylvania is an animated move about Count Dracula opening up a high end hotel that caters to monsters. The Invisible Man, Frankenstein, a family of werewolves and other monsters come to the hotel to celebrate Mavis (Dracula’s daughter) 118 birthday. The monsters fear humans and everything is fine at the hotel until Jonathan (a hapless human), backpacking across Europe gets lost and ends up at the hotel. An old fan boy goes digital with Gotham Spirit and others
I cursed my closet fan boy self when I realized that I missed National Comic Book Day. Not that I needed an excuse to go to the comic book store, but it would’ve given me a reason to opine what’s going on in the world of comics & graphic novels. Thankfully the internet and blog don’t need to respect the laws of time….so let’s go! Continue reading An old fan boy goes digital with Gotham Spirit and others
