Go Joe, ways to honor the military

This week is a busy one.  In addition to the work that must be done, I’ve got a couple of meetings and movies that I’m going to.  The movie that I’m most jazzed about seeing is definitely G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  Obviously, that’s a fictional movie that is geared towards entertaining people.  However, there are countless ways for you to help our heroes at home and abroad. To me spring means flowers, butterflies and WrestleMania. I’ve been a fan ever since the first one, hosted several WrestleMania parties and am quite jealous of anyone that’s attending it in person. Kmart is having a special campaign now for WWE fans that involves exclusive merchandise and the chance to win 4 passes to WrestleMania on April 7. Marvel is giving away 700 free digital comics

Alternate headline:  Dad blogger calls in sick for a couple of days.  Marvel Comics is giving away 700 digital copies of a wide variety of their comics.  That’s a lot of digital comics.  Some of them are from the new MARVEL NOW! Reboots, while some of the comics are first issues or classic stories from the 90’s or 00’s.  Continue reading Marvel is giving away 700 free digital comics

Oz the Great and Powerful review: perfectly entertaining

I’m not a fan of 3D movies and prequels are simply an excuse to revisit tired film franchises with new actors.  I have thought both of those things in the past and sometimes they are true.  Factor in that Oz is iconic material, you’re messing with arguable the most beloved movie of all time and any references will ruffle the feathers of people regardless of how well made the movie is.  Rest easy denizens of Oz, the new movie is at its best- truly wonderful and at its worst an OK movie with lots of fabulous effects. The Danger Girl/G.I. Joe crossover is simple, OK comic middle ground

Back in the day I used to read Danger Girl, when it came out.  It was one of those comics that issued an issue every month or so, semi interesting bad guys and half naked women on every page.  Don’t get me wrong, I do love beautiful women, but there is just something about Danger Girl that reminds me of those lyrics from Barenaked Ladies. Continue reading The Danger Girl/G.I. Joe crossover is simple, OK comic middle ground

Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Rush-not just for kids

I’m a big Rush fan.  They were long overdue to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Justice served, they’re in and have just been given the lullaby treatment from Rockabye Baby!  Continue reading Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Rush-not just for kids

Win a pair of tickets to The Who 2/22 at Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall

One of the groovy things about having worked in radio for a long time is that I’m well versed in many genres of music.  I also attended lots of concerts.  One of the classic artists we saw was The Who.  It was a hot summer night in North Carolina, there was no shade in the stadium, but the concert was loud, fun and unforgettable. The Who is on tour now and we’re giving away a pair of tickets to see them at their performance at Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall on February 22. Continue reading Win a pair of tickets to The Who 2/22 at Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall

Red She-Hulk 62 is good, consistent, story oriented Hulk

I’ve been reading Hulk for a couple of years now.  At first he was the regular green Hulk, then Thunderbolt Ross (Red Hulk) and now Red She-Hulk.  The good part, from a story telling perspective is that all of them have taken place in the same book.  There was no forced reboot or taking the issues back to #1, they just changed the name of the book to Red She-Hulk.  Continue reading Red She-Hulk 62 is good, consistent, story oriented Hulk
