New All Age Comic Books for Wednesday, September 2, 2015

Wednesday means new comic book and this week has a nice crop of the newer all age comic books. By newer I mean the titles based on new animated shows like Adventure Time, Bob’s Burgers and Regular Show. There are also the new reboot comic books like Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge.  Both of these series started anew this year and really good and appropriate for any aged reader. Science fiction fans will enjoy Transformers, Star Wars: Jedi Academy Attack of the Journal, Home (trade paperback) and Futurama.

We love Futurama and this issue has a picture of Zapp Brannigan, who will always be read by Phil Hartman in our mind’s eye.

Girls will want to pay special attention to Adventures of Aero Girl #4 (of 4). There’s enough action for this to be great for anyone; but as you might have guessed from the title it has a young girl as the heroine who will resonate with girls especially. The links will take you to TFAW, which will save you cash on the comics that you purchase.

What to expect from Dragon Con in Atlanta

Dragon Con is the largest pop culture convention in the U.S. that focuses on sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, comics, music, art and film. That’s quite the boiler plate copy, but it’s true. Dragon Con is more than a place to catch presentations from the cast of Arrow. There are literally hundreds of break- out sessions that are geared to exactly what interests you in the pop culture world.  And the cosplay-wow, it’s not required that you come in costume, but thousands of people wear them and they’re really something to marvel. The parade on Saturday morning is one of the highlights of the weekend.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Amazing Adventures #1 review

It seems like every week some comic is coming out with either Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Transformers. While both of those titles, in theory, are good for all ages, it depends on the age of the child. At least it did until now. Recently an animated, i.e., more all age title came out for Transformers and this week sees a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle comic, Amazing Adventures that is squarely aimed at that age group too.

Josh & the Jamtones latest succeeds despite its weak premise

Rocksteady, the latest release by Josh & the Jamtones is an energetic, happy mash up of ska, rock and pop that kids will love. If you listen to Sirius XM or visit Chuck E. Cheese you’ve heard their music for sure.  However, when I first heard the CD I couldn’t stand it. Many listens later I’ve learned to like it while our kids really like the music, let me explain what made us change our mind.

Back to school viewing on Netflix #StreamTeam

Hey, we were compensated for this post. Having said that, all thoughts are our own and these shows really rock. Back to school! What did the kids do this summer? If their television habits weren’t as educational as you would’ve liked there is a solution to that. School! And there are some fun, educational shows on Netflix that kids of various ages will like to watch. These shows are actually educational and will provide kids a chance to relax in front of the tele while still learning something.

Transformers: Robots In Disguise (Animated) #1 review

Thanks in part to Cartoon Network; various Hasbro Toys, as well as Rescue Bots our kids know Transformers. Well, they know that they’re aliens that came to Earth and can shift into vehicles for one purpose or another. It’s the mythos, history, vintage action figures and questionable live action films that they have yet to learn. This week they learned about the comic book version of them with Transfomers: Robots In Disguise #1, it’s an all age book that our five-year old couldn’t wait to get his hands on.

New All Age Comic Books for Wednesday, August 19, 2015

If you live in the southeast it’s only a scant couple of weeks before Dragon Con! Held over Labor Day in Atlanta it’s one of the nation’s largest cons, has massive fan sessions, an entire building (almost) full of collectibles, a parade that will leave you in awe and a crowd that will be about 70,000 deep. Don’t let that number scare you off, the parade is a must see for families and really is quite fun-even though some of the costumes are a bit too scary for the small kids.

Now-on with the new all age comics! Archie has been rebooted and is really fun, #2 comes out this week and is a great read for girls OR boys. Yeah, I said it. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #33 comes out this week too, again, it’s OK if the boys read it. There are two TMNT books out this week, #49 from the comic series and Mutanimals TBP, that collects a series of issues from the comic.

Our favorite release this week though isn’t even a comic, but it is all age appropriate and Star Wars. Star Wars Original Topps Trading Card Series Vol. 1. It collects all five of the series for the first Star Wars film in their Topps Trading Card glory in book form. These aren’t the original cards, it’s a book of the original cards, plus the trivia, stickers, story summaries, puzzle cards-everything except the gum.
