Mattel’s Clawdeen Wolf doll causes concern for parents

Toddler Mojo learned that he can close his eyes without going to sleep.  He’s started squinting, then laughing, squinting his eyes, closing them and then falling on the floor laughing with his eyes closed.  Some news stories make us want to close our eyes and this is one of them.

Clawdeen Wolf is a new entry in Mattel’s hugely popular Monster High doll line.  Clawdeen Wolf looks like a stripper, granted that’s not too different from the Bratz dolls. Continue reading Mattel’s Clawdeen Wolf doll causes concern for parents

Parenting tips from a SAHD-Snacks

My wife and I are very lucky to have a child that loves and (has so far) stuck to a schedule.  He wakes up at the same time, has breakfast, a snack, lunch, nap, dinner, bath and goes to bed each day within ten minutes every day.  It requires a bit of timing and patience, but it allows us to have a nice dinner together and know what to expect during the day with a 17 month old toddler. A disaster puts everything in your tiny life in perspective

A disaster along the scale of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan can bring no good news.  It’s a tragic natural disaster that can produce stories of hope and surprise rescues, but the death toll is almost certain to rise over 10,000.

The reason this tragedy affects me more than the Indonesian tsunami in 2004 is that I lived in Japan for a couple years and personally know how gentle and kind they are.  Continue reading A disaster puts everything in your tiny life in perspective

The Chicken Thief is a children’s book, but we love it

We were in the library the other day when I stumbled across The Chicken Thief by Beatrice Rodriguez.   It’s a funny shaped book that’s more rectangular than most, has a cute bunny on the back cover  and Toddler Mojo was ready to go.  As a toddler tantrum was about to happen I checked out and didn’t pay the book any attention until I got home. A dad and the communication stages of the Toddler

The 17 month old toddler is a magical, highly excitable creature that still has trouble communicating to mom and dad.  While the toddler’s point gets made, it lacks a certain finesse.  In observing our toddler we’ve determined that a 17 month old has three forms of verbal communication: Chinese Baby, Bobcat Goldwaite and The Singing Frog, Continue reading A dad and the communication stages of the Toddler

Massive children’s consignment sale in Roswell this weekend

We are big fans of buying used.  It’s good for the environment and helps us remain frugal with our limited supply of cash.

We’re also pumped about our favorite consignment sale of the year happening this weekend.  It’s the bi-annual Second Childhood Consignment at 1425 Market Boulevard, Roswell, GA, 30076 in the old Comp USA location.  The sale is March 4, 10-6PM, March 5, 9-3 and March 6, Continue reading Massive children’s consignment sale in Roswell this weekend

As a parent, should you advise other parents?

Nobody likes people who butt into their business.  They offer suggestions and voice their opinions when we may not want or need them.   This can be especially true when it comes to parents and the style or manner in which they raise their children.

We encountered two situations recently where we didn’t say anything, but left possibly wishing that we should have.

Parents, runny noses, Boogie Wipes and DISCO!

The many benefits of cold weather are skiing, snowboarding and blue horizons pierced by pine trees that challenge the sky for height.  Alas, if you’re a mom or dad who doesn’t happen to live in Colorado, then cold weather means runny noses, sick children and a yearning to be a parent in one of those mountain states.

A child with a runny nose is a disgusting thing.  Your child with a runny nose is an angel that needs to have their nose wiped before they re-enact the movie Up with mucus bubbles. Continue reading Parents, runny noses, Boogie Wipes and DISCO!
