Naptime DIY: solder wires together for simple electronic fixes

Before I did my first soldering project I thought that kind of work was difficult and dangerous.  It started with a remote control that simply had a wire that had become disconnected.  I knew duct tape was too big and clunky to do the trick and also knew that I didn’t have a soldering tool.  While it can be difficult and dangerous to use; soldering wires together has a learning curve and isn’t so bad once you practice with it. Experiencing life instead of documenting it: A 3 YO reads to our cat

The other week 3 YO Mojo had a tricycle wreck which earned him his first trip to the ER and 6 stitches in his chin.  Those stitches had to stay in for 6 days and unknown to him he had something in common with Ripley, one of our cats.  A week prior to that she went to the doctor to have minor surgery near her eye; which required her to have 6 stitches too.  After that the major difference that he noticed about her was that the cone she wore around her head was convenient for putting his Little People in. Nothing prepares a parent for a child’s first trip to the ER

Children are resilient, bouncy creatures covered in fleshy skin.  It’s probable that at some point during your parenting adventures they’ll have an accident or do something to warrant their first trip to the ER.   That happened to us-everyone is OK, just a boo boo, but it’s a bigger than average boo boo on his chin that required 6 stitches.  Continue reading Nothing prepares a parent for a child’s first trip to the ER

Checklist with a Tired Parent: Why is my Crawler Crying?

More Mojo was upset.  At 11 months old he was crying, yelling and becoming the red faced, high pitched noise machine that makes people who don’t already have children take an oath of celibacy. When your crawler is in the thick of a tantrum it’s tempting to get frustrated.  When that happened to us we did get frustrated, but also ran through our toddler Q & A checklist. Lil Helper is a simple, helpful device that crawlers need to have

Little crawlers love the play the drop something game.  They drop it, you pick it up and the game repeats over and over.  Sometimes the game is cute.  When they play the game at the dinner table with their cup of milk it’s never cute.  Continue reading Lil Helper is a simple, helpful device that crawlers need to have

The potty training tip that has our 3 year old leaving diaper town

For the record we’re still potty training 3YO Mojo.  His potty training started when he was 2 and a half, taking interest in the potty and having so-so results, including dad sleeping on the toilet. 3 months prior to his third birthday he started going  #1 with regularity, but the elusive #2 was still not here.  It was then that we had good idea that morphed into a great idea.
