The first trip to the Melanoma doctor was a mitosis dividing success! We learned that EKG’s can be a good love tester, a procedural visit to this doctor means that you’ll need surgery anyway and Judas Priest Spider-Man isn’t just a magical leather clad fantasy in your 80’s metal mind. For Father’s Day I got a gift I didn’t want: Melanoma
If there were a medical condition return window I’d run there now and return this Melanoma. The first time you hear Melanoma it sounds not too unpleasant. I like melons and “oma” sounds like ‘the land of’, why I’ll take a trip to Melanoma thank you very much. Alas, in reality Melanoma is skin cancer, in my case brought on by a good mole gone bad. Continue reading For Father’s Day I got a gift I didn’t want: Melanoma
The Honest Toddler speaks the truth, but I didn’t get it
I am sometimes behind the curve on things. I didn’t get Doctor Who until they had made about 40 episodes into the latest incarnation-now I love it! I ‘get’ Convos With My 2 Year Old immediately. The Honest Toddler is a twitter sensation that has a book out now that I just don’t get. Continue reading The Honest Toddler speaks the truth, but I didn’t get it
Sometimes you have to be ‘that’ dad
‘that’ dad can be taken many ways. It’s the dad that is too protective, doesn’t allow freedom, wears annoying clothing or is hopelessly doing something that his children find embarrassing. In this case I’m talking about that dad (or parent) that stops what’s happening when something is going on that is not right. Continue reading Sometimes you have to be ‘that’ dad
My wife on NBC Nightly News about being the breadwinner
I am a stay at home dad. Our family is allowed to have me stay at home with the children because my wife earned much more money than I when we started having children. When the Pew Research study about women breadwinners came out she was featured on NBC Nightly News. This is Daddy Mojo 101, how it came to be and video footage of the kids from NBC. Continue reading My wife on NBC Nightly News about being the breadwinner
Life lessons reminded by the expiration date on peanut butter
The other day I opened the kitchen cabinet and noticed the expiration date on our peanut butter. Being that we’re a family of 4 I knew that this jar would never, ever last to the end of the month, much less 2015. 2015 in the context of a jar of peanut butter seems impossibly far away. It’s a date too absurd to even think about, until I looked to the right of that cabinet. Continue reading Life lessons reminded by the expiration date on peanut butter
The moment when a child knows what you’re thinking
Children are a fabulous, compact, confusing version of us. What they see and do may not immediately be proof of them being from you. Stop for a moment, twist what they’re saying, pronounce it like Urkel from Family Matters would and you just might understand what they’re trying to tell you. Continue reading The moment when a child knows what you’re thinking
I’m OK with being called Mr. Mom- depending on who you are
Hi, my name is Trey and I’m a stay at home dad. During the day I care for an 18 month old and 3.5 year old. I get called Mr. Mom a couple of times a week and for the most part it doesn’t bother me. “Oh are doing the Mr. Mom today”, the cashier will innocently say. I’ll politely say, no, I do this full time, they’ll feel stupid and we’ll leave. Continue reading I’m OK with being called Mr. Mom- depending on who you are
