A study came out this past week with the dubious conclusion that men who have smaller testicles are better fathers. Those findings certainly make for lots of clever headlines and puns involving balls, nads, lads, dads, festival, technical, ethical and the upcoming election. However, when you dig into the study it leaves room for many questions. This caused me to make up a study that came to the conclusion that women with smaller breasts are better mothers.* Continue reading Lad’s nads and women with smaller breasts are better mothers

Momagers, mom and dad to the job interview are red flags for life
If the article weren’t in The Wall Street Journal I would swear that it came from The Onion. The title of the article, Should You Bring Mom and Dad to The Job Interview is about how Millennials are bringing their parents to the workplace. Cue blood boiling at the headline, stupid weak Millennials, I say in my grumpy old man voice. However, one of the stories isn’t all bad. Continue reading Momagers, mom and dad to the job interview are red flags for life
Awkward questions from children: Daddy, what’s in your willy?
The many questions that a 4 year old asks are the stuff of legend. Sometimes the questions from children will be earnest and straight forward. It’s those other times when your children ask questions that are unexpected, innocent or just downright weird. Continue reading Awkward questions from children: Daddy, what’s in your willy?
An aunt and 3 fans review One Direction: This Is Us
I’m honest. If I wasn’t driving my nieces – ages 8, 10 and 12 – to the movie, I wouldn’t have gone. I don’t have anything against One Direction (I was a fan of NKOTB in 6th grade too!) but I’m in my twenties now (read: 37). However, seeing my nieces see One Direction: This Is Us was a lot of fun. Does being a full time child caregiver exempt you from jury duty?
It’s the dreaded piece of mail that people received once every couple of years; the jury summons. Like death and taxes, the jury summons will be issued to everyone (in the U.S.) at some point in life. I saw the big X that meant I was on standby, called the number the night before I was supposed to serve and got an exemption-or did I? Continue reading Does being a full time child caregiver exempt you from jury duty?
The Starbucks #VIA Moment Instagram contest #Spon
I do like my caffeine. Most of the time it’s iced, sometimes it’s hot, but it’s always caffeine and somehow, magically makes the day become 5:00 so much quicker. As a stay at home dad these moments have to be timed and need to happen during the late morning or early afternoon for me to make it to the finish line. Starbucks and Life of Dad have teamed up on a groovy contest to highlight how important coffee can be to us all. Continue reading The Starbucks #VIA Moment Instagram contest #Spon
Being a better parent means thinking like a lawyer
Being a parent requires you to wear many hats. Some of these hats, or professions you may have had no practical experience with, but they will help you in dealing with your children. Earlier we mentioned the skill sets of a waiter that are needed by all parents. Now that we have one child who can engage in conversations we’ve discovered the need to work like a waiter and think like a lawyer. Continue reading Being a better parent means thinking like a lawyer
Our family lessons learned between the first and second child
Our youngest will turn 2 years old in a couple of months. The cliché that the time flies by is every so true. You can’t believe they were ever that small and so forth. The bending of time that happens after the second child is born is quick, you blink and suddenly they’re 2 years old. If I could talk to myself a couple of months before our second child arrived here is a list of things that I would suggest.
