The Way is the latest movie starring Martin Sheen. It’s story driven, with no special effects, sexual overtones, bad language or nudity. In other words, it’s a tough sell in Hollywood. We caught a sneak preview of The Way and the movie is effective, well told and a welcome distraction. Continue reading The Way is personal & professional for its star & director

The Way is an earnest father/son movie that entertains in many ways
The Way is the story about Tom (Martin Sheen), an American father who’s living a simple, successful life in California as an optometrist. Tom’s son, Daniel (Emilio Estevez) is killed in an accident while walking “El Camino de Santiago”, a 500 mile trail that crosses from France into Spain. Estevez doesn’t appear in the movie much, but did direct it. After Tom arrives in France to collect the body he decides to embark on the pilgrimage that his son was doing. Along the way Tom meets some fellow travelers who have their own reasons for doing the trek. Continue reading The Way is an earnest father/son movie that entertains in many ways
Real Steel is built to last and solid entertainment
Real Steel is set in the near future, when robot boxing is very popular. Dad spends a night in the mancave: Hanna
Sometimes I don’t need to watch a movie. Some previews are so enjoyable and give away major plot points that you don’t need to bother with the time or money to watch the actual movie. Hanna had a really good trailer and now that it’s available on demand we broke down and rented it.

Daddy Mojo at the movies: Cars 2
PIXAR has a high bar. No other movie company has such a consistently high bar to jump over for any of their releases. Cars was a good movie, but not a great movie, especially when looked at through the prism of what people expect from PIXAR. With this background established I saw Cars 2 with a key member of their demographic, a 4 year old boy and his father. Continue reading Daddy Mojo at the movies: Cars 2
Daddy Mojo at the Movies: Mr. Poppers Penguins
Jim Carrey is Mr. Popper. He’s a successful 30 something real estate developer in NYC who has a knack for acquiring impossible deals. One aspect of his professional success and personal demeanor is driven by the fact that his father didn’t spend much time with him as a child. His father was exploring the world including the South Pole, from whence the penguins in the title come from. Continue reading Daddy Mojo at the Movies: Mr. Poppers Penguins
