All age comic books for February 3

Happy New Comic Book Day! That happens every Wednesday for most of you, like Boom! Studios, IDW, Marvel, Image, Oni Press, Action Lab, and Archie Comics. For those of you keeping score, that’s every comic book house except for DC Comics, whose books come out on Tuesday. Regardless of who you’re celebrating, make it a good one and phone ahead to your local comic book store so that they can save books for you. Now, let’s look at the all-age-comic books that are arriving this week.

Our oldest son is 11 now and he’s been enjoying The Amazing Spider-Man for two years now. The Amazing Spider-Man #101 is being re-released in a facsimile edition. This is cool because it’s the first appearance of Morbius and the facsimile edition means that it’s printed the way it was in the 70s, vintage ads, letters to the editor, and everything. This comic book, even in its modern incarnation is fine for a 10-year-old. There might be one or two bad words in the comic book, but it’s nothing they’re not hearing in school or on TV.

Marvel Action is one of the best all-age titles out there. It’s a team-up between Marvel Comics and IDW Publishing. Marvel Action Origins #1 is out this week and takes a look at two Marvel characters and their origin story. Granted, we need another Peter Parker origin story like a hole in the head, thankfully the other origin story in this comic is Thanos. Each subsequent issue will also feature two characters from the MCU.

This week in all age comic books is fun and diverse. It kicks off with two releases from Archie Comics. Archie & Friends Fall Festival is a comic book that retails for only $2.99, while Archie Milestones Jumbo Comics Digest is the square publication that you’ll see at the check-out lane at the supermarket. Both of these are new and on point for those readers in upper elementary and middle school.

Middle school readers who are looking for a fun graphic novel should check out 7 Good Reasons Not to Grow Up. Upper elementary school readers will love Super Side Kicks-No Adults Allowed by Gavin Aung Than on Random House. Those same ages who are looking for a left-of-center comic book need to look at The Magnificent Ms. Marvel. This is great for those tween readers who want superhero action, but need something that’s not typical and still very fun. Power Rangers also starts a new chapter. This new series brings a new team with all new dangers. Those upper elementary readers who are looking for a series that’s loaded with action should give this a look.

Hilda and the Time Worm is a novel that ties in to the Netflix show. This character and the world that creator Luke Pearson have created is timeless and words great for kids aged 8 and up. There’s a great number of all age comic books out this week, to see all of them just jump on past the graphic.

New comic book day is nigh and there are a couple great all age comic books in that mix. Literally, it’s just a couple of new comic books. There are some great elementary school readers in these releases though. Do you have an elementary school student who likes superheroes and needs to read? If that’s the case then they need to check out Stone Arch Books, an imprint of Capstone Publishing. This week has three DC stories that’ll entertain ages seven and up. Batman & Missing Punchline, Cyborg-An Origin Story or Wonder Woman and the Cheetah Challenge all have great art that’s combined with a written story that will make those ages want to read.

For those upper elementary ages you need to read Goosebumps Secrets of the Swamp. This series from IDW Publishing is perfect for those fans who enjoy the Marvel Action comic book series from the same publisher. This presents age-appropriate scares and monsters for those eight-year-old readers who love great art with their written story. This is fun stuff that will hit those ages, plus demo up through middle school.

There are also a couple cool Spider-Man books, a series that’s always great for ages nine and up. Middle school readers who like monsters and robots need to check out The Rise of Ultraman. Issue 3 of this 5 issue mini-series is out this week. This is a fun series that does rely on reading to follow the fine points of the plot. Don’t let that put you off because it’s very well crafted and has some larger than life monsters.

All age comic books for October 7

Hello to age diversity and graphic novels this week! In all age comic books, there is generally a wide range of readers who would be great fits for anything and this week is a testament to that. That is especially true if there’s an elementary school reader who is looking for a great graphic novel to latch onto. Those emerging readers have their pick of the litter including Clifford the Big Red Dog The Movie Graphic Novel, Arlo & Pips King of the Birds, Dolphin Girl Trouble in Paradise, Gabby & Gator and many more. That last graphic novel is by James Birks of the great Bird & Squirrel graphic novel series. That series is a go-to for any elementary school reader, so keep an eye out for his new book. It’s also worth noting that the fourth book in the very popular Mr. Wolf’s Class by Aron Nels Steinke is out this week. Field Trip is elementary reading fun that also gives kids confidence because they can read the graphic novel by themselves.

If it’s middle or high school comic (drama) you want, then check out Zits, Screentime. This latest treasury of the classic comic strip captures teenage angst meeting parental frustration at its best. This strip is celebrating its 23^rd anniversary and 16-year-old Jeremy is just as normal as any actual teen. Because of this, it’s a strip that can be enjoyed by middle school readers all the way through moms and dads.

There are some all age comic books out this week too. The Amazing Spider-Man #49 is out and it’s a big issue. Clocking in a $9.99 this is landmark #850 if you’re following to the legacy, lineage of the series. The Rise of Ultraman #2 of 5 will be great for those left-of-center kids looking for something cool. Sonic the Hedgehog Bad Guys #1 of 4 and Star Wars Adventures #1 will both be great for readers aged 8 and up who are looking for a great comic that their friends are reading. It’s the second new comic book day of 2020 and things are back to normal in the publishing world. There’s something for readers in early elementary school all the way through left of center reads for those teenagers. For young readers this week we’ve got Casper and My Little Pony. Those middle school folks will love Aquaman Giant. There are also three historical graphic novels about Marie Curie, Albert Einstein and Charles Darwin that allow you to learn as you have fun. It’s a great week for all age comic books. The 500 pound gorilla in kidlit arrives with its latest installment. While Diary of a Wimpy Kid Wrecking Ball is not a comic book, it’s such a big deal for elementary and middle school readers it merits mentioning here. Those ages won’t care about the plot, they’ll just want new adventures from the Heffley family. There are also some great releases from Marvel Action on IDW Publishing, a massive 100 page release from Teen Titans Go! and more.
