Here’s to the #HealthyDad and those doing something about it #AD

Thanks to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia who sponsored the campaign and including dads in this important discussion about family health care. My views are based solely on my experience as a parent and patient-not as a medical professional. I am a mesomorph, therefore I am.  Nutrition and diet may not be an interesting read to a 15 year old, but put the emerging star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the author and I was hooked.

Toy animals, pink stuff and a child’s desire to help dad before going to the Oncologist

The Oncologist is not your typical doctor.  The audiologist, cardiologist, plastic surgeon and immunologist, just to mention a few can all be figured out their prefix.  Granted one may think that the plastic surgeon only works on little plastic dolls, but what child hasn’t ripped the arm off of Joe or Barbie?  However, what is the ‘onco’ that these doctors are treating?  I never knew that fact until I was an adult and kind of bummed out when I had to go see one.  Everything is fine now.  We have quarterly visits to Doctor Lee and our son wasn’t too happy with us on our recent visit.

Spread the word to help A Blogger and a Father #Cancer

Car and computer problems.  Both of them stop our day’s cold in their tracks and piss us off royally.  Why today?  It may not be a good day for either of them; but the day that it happens-when you’re not expecting seems like the worst day for it ever.   Then something major happens and you wish for car or computer problems.  A friend to the blogging community is going through something like that, stage 4 Cancer, here’s his story and how you can help.

Blog Forward Challenge update: baby steps to the goal

So back in February I wrote down some of my New Year’s goals.  That’s the blessing and curse of writing them down, it’s in print and ready to remind you at any moment.  For me though, I’m glad that I wrote them down because they were goals that I genuinely want to accomplish.  Watch more cat videos-check.  There were also some much more productive goals that I’ll get to in a moment.

The best product review that I never did: Melanoma #Ad

I review the majority of products that are sent to me.  Some books slip through the cracks, but for the most part things get reviewed in a timely fashion here.  One thing that slipped through the cracks was the Phillips Norelco BodyGroom Pro.  I had a great post about shaving my body all lined up and a couple of jokes.  However, in using the product we discovered a mole that turned out to be malignant, cancerous and evil- the jokes were cancelled for a bit.

The Pick and Roll BBQ shrimp Peroigi, #FrozenChefMadness

Last week I wrote about the #FrozenChefMadness challenge.  It’s a chance for you; yes you, to win $800, $250, $150 or $100 for creating an original dish using items from the frozen foods section.   For my dish I pondered the situation of people who love BBQ shrimp, but want it in an enclosed sandwich form with tater tots on the outside.   It can’t be done you say?  Read on and taste the March Madness.

What’s the best way to cut an avocado?

We love avocados in our house.  It’s nature’s butter and is great on anything. Additionally, the lifespan of an avocado is frustrating, it’s perfect for seemingly one day and then it’s too ripe to eat all of it.  So, what is the best way to cut an avocado?  Using a spoon to scoop out the avocado never felt like the right way to do it.  It wastes too much, takes take too long and produces a mash of avocado that was tasty, but had very poor presentation.
