Our Oncologist, paranoid thoughts and the baby store

It was our first trip to the Oncologist since a friend of ours died of brain cancer. Cancer is a weird thing and it’s important not to let it twist your thoughts. The (very tiny) paranoid area of my brain would freak out when I had a headache just after his death.  No, it’s just a headache and that’s why you go to the doctor to confirm that everything is OK. This was our almost two year appointment after being diagnosed with melanoma.

Leonard Nimoy, Oren Miller and the ties that bind

On September 11,  2003 John Ritter died.  On September 12, 2003 Johnny Cash died.   I enjoyed both of their works, Ritter for Three’s Company and Cash for his countless songs that I enjoyed.  It’s rare when two famous people that I admire or liked their work pass away with such sequence to each other.  It happened again recently when Leonard Nimoy and Oren Miller died.

Apraxia is nonsense, or is it? Speech delay by any other name

Our youngest isn’t much of a talker. At 18 months the doctor was saying that we should take him to a specialist because he’s not saying 6 words.  We didn’t do that because that doctor, in hindsight was a bit of an alarmist.  His answers seemed straight out of Google and he never factored in some things that we thought should be considered.  Because of his answers and the way he presented things we didn’t do anything.

How to tell that your child isn’t a heartless monster

When you’re the parent to toddlers and other small people you invite all manner of other small things home too. Your tired immune system saw these microbes, virus’, protozoa and such years ago when you where their age.  In the mind’s eye of your child the virus may have a funny cartoon shape, kind of like a doll that was found on the island of misfit toys.   Our recent battle with these subprime particles cast doubt upon the humanity of our children.  Thankfully it was restored the next day in a hidden gesture that they did weeks ago to other people.

Cosplay for a cause, helping Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation

When we arrived at the party I saw lots of scars.  Through the eye holes in my costume I could see that the scars on their heads were jagged, others straight and all of them varied in length.  Some of the patients needed help walking, others danced into the room and others used crutches or wheelchairs to make their way.  When our contact met us during the #RandomActsofBooing she told us about this event, but was hesitant on the details for a reason I now understood.

Don’t be a luffa, #RealMenScrub with frank and it’s great

I partnered with Life of Dad and frank body for this promotion. Note:  A luffa is a scrubber that is used in the shower.  Aloof is an adjective used to describe someone who appears disoriented or uncaring.  For example, ‘that guy sure is aloof about his hygiene, he smells like a billy goat and his temperament is questionable too’, but enough about some of the other dad bloggers involved in this.  The first time I tried frank Body Scrub I immediately saw a difference and had unexpected results from people around me.

VSP, keeping eyes healthy, happy and more #SeeMuchMore #ad #Giveaway

This is a sponsored post and giveaway.  All thought are our own.  I wear glasses.  When I don’t wear glasses it’s obvious because my eyes squint, after a while I look tired and I’m far less handsome….or so I’m told.  When I was 17 I needed glasses, I expect the same from our children, but they’ve already had their eyes check out.  VSP is the nation’s largest non-profit vision care company  and their members save an average of $330.

Medikidz Explain Seizure Assistance Dogs, a medical comic book kids can relate to

Medikidz is a series of comic books that explain medical conditions.  What is impressive about the series is that they potentially complex conditions in ways that children can relate to and understand.  We received their current comic book Medikidz Explain Seizure Assistance Dogs to look over and it does do a great job breaking down what a seizure is and how an assistance dog can help children with Epilepsy.
