I’ve always wanted a pipe wrench.   The name sounds tough, combining two rugged words that make one super jagged word that actually serves a purpose and is made of steel?  That is bordering on testosterone overload.   I have a pair of Channel Lock pliers.  They do roughly the same thing as a pipe wrench.  But if a pipe wrench is Chuck Norris, a pair of Channel Lock pliers is John Stamos. Frankenweenie is a fun, silly movie that has an old soul

Frankenweenie is the story about young Victor whose dog, Sparky is brought back to life using electricity.  Once Sparky comes back to life things go horribly awry for the city, as well as, Victor’s family and friends.  Sure the plot sounds familiar, but this is a Tim Burton movie, shot in black and white and it’s in 3D. Won’t Back Down is like the New Kids on the Block

Timing is everything, with that said the release of Won’t Back Down couldn’t be better.  The Chicago Teachers Union strike just ended and charter school amendments are on many local ballots this November.  A movie hasn’t received this coincidentally beneficial timing since The China Syndrome in 1979. Rare are PG movies.  Even more uncommon are PG movies that are entertaining for the entire family.  In the wrong hands The Odd Life of Timothy Green could’ve been a disaster.  Thankfully the strong script, solid acting and just enough magic combine to make a wonderful family film that covers all the bases without stopping too long on any one of them.
