Happy new comic book day for the first Wednesday of the year! Yeah, it’s a day late, but as new comic book day fell on Christmas Day and then on New Year’s Day it means that the number of all age comic books is lower than normal weeks. There are still some great ones to choose from, like Vault of Heroes Hulk from IDW Publishing which will be great for kids in elementary school who want some superhero reading. Sonic the Hedgehog #26 is out this week too and this monthly comic book is a go-to comic for elementary schools. They love this comic and after looking at it for a moment you’ll see why.
New comic book day is nigh and this week in all age comic books has a return to more comics that are appropriate for younger readers, some old school reprints and a couple great graphic novels. Where do witches and other monsters take their pets when they’re sick? Hex Vet, The Flying Surgery, an original graphic novel from Boom! Studios answers that question and is great for elementary school readers and up. Two dogs, Scooby Doo Where Are You #102 and Snoopy A Beagle of Mars will keep the classic canine readers engaged. Lumberjanes #69 is out and is one of the best all age comic books that comes out each month. If you have a reader who is in middle elementary school through high school they’ll find something to love about this comic book.
Happy new comic book day! It happens every Wednesday and in those releases are usually a dozen or two great all age comic books. This is on the lighter end of that spectrum. Upper elementary school readers who like anthropomorphic action should check out Usagi Yojimbo. Middle school readers who are looking for superhero action that’s not typical can dive into Ms. Marvel, issue #10 is out this week. Those elementary school readers that have Frozen 2 fever will want to read Disney Frozen: True Treasure #2, it’s $3.99 and from Dark Horse Comics. For the entire list of this week’s new all age comic books please dig on through the list or listen to the podcast.
This week in all age comic books is skinnier than most weeks, but there are still a couple great releases. For example, Disney, The Little Mermaid has its second issue out this week. If you have a child who is in early elementary school and up they’ll love this. It’s an especially good fit if they’ve just seen the film on Disney + and want to read a new story about her. Middle school readers will love Science Comics: Skyscrapers and Ben 10: Mecha Madness, a new graphic novel featuring this excellent character.
This week in all age comic books has My Little
Pony-Friendship is Magic, DC Superhero Girls Giant, Go Go Power Rangers, Big
Hero 6 and more. Over in the podcast we’ll chat about those issues, plus let
you know that one of the best monthly series is calling it a wrap, introduce
you to a great new mini-series from Tracy Yardley and look at two new graphic
novels for middle school readers and up.
It’s a great week for all age comic books. The 500 pound
gorilla in kidlit arrives with its latest installment. While Diary of a Wimpy
Kid Wrecking Ball is not a comic book, it’s such a big deal for elementary and
middle school readers it merits mentioning here. Those ages won’t care about
the plot, they’ll just want new adventures from the Heffley family. There are
also some great releases from Marvel Action on IDW Publishing, a massive 100
page release from Teen Titans Go! and more.
