It’s National School Lunch Week, what you can do to help

It’s National School Lunch Week and Welch’s® Fruit Snacks has partnered with Feeding America to help kids in your area. National School Lunch Week is October 10th – October 14th. Through October they’ve partnered with Feeding America to provide 1 million meals to kids who need them.

In honor of this week Welch’s® Fruit Snacks challenges parents to pack the ultimate school lunch. Now, we’re no Lunchbox Dad. Our version of a successful lunch is getting it made and in the box at least 10 minutes before the bus arrives. If I want to feel like Super Dad I’ll make it the night before and put a cape around my neck. I do envy the art and creativity that he does when it comes to their kid’s school lunches.

Just buy any Welchs Fruit Snacks, take a photo of the packaging and then submit it. You can send it in by texting ‘lunch’ to 811-811or upload it to fillthelunchbox.com. For each photo receive Welchs will donate $1.0 to Feeding America.

Thank the lunch lady. Make the kids a great lunch and give them a special treat or two. Don’t forget to take a photo of your Welchs for a great cause.

Ear Snacks from Andrew & Polly is more than its title

The official title of Andrew & Polly’s latest release is Ear Snacks, Songs From The Podcast. Our family saw Andrew & Polly in concert this past year and absolutely fell in love with them. Helpful hint: take the kids to a kindie concert, they will love it and the parents will have much more fun then they think they will. So when I saw the title for their latest, I was kind of bummed because Songs From The Podcast sounds like a compilation of ‘B’ material. In the world of animation it would call it a clip show. It’s a Frankenstein release that’s not loved, but put out there to oblige a required amount of new music or footage.

Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, #1 review

Star Vs. The Forces of Evil is a force in her own right to be reckoned with. She’s the star of one of the coolest, most creative shows that’s on the air on Disney XD now. This is a very funny show that would be as comfortable, if not more so, on Cartoon Network as it is on its current home.  The comic book version of Star Vs. The Forces of Evil #1 is out and what young girls who read Spongebob Comics or Adventure Time are looking for.

From empty to a playground in 6 hours, Let’s Play and KaBOOM! Build again

This post is brought to you by Let’s Play, an initiative by Dr Pepper Snapple Group that provides kids and families with the tools, places and inspiration to make active play a daily priority by building and improving playgrounds and donating sports equipment to groups in need. I’m a Let’s Play Ambassador and was compensated for this post. All opinions are my own.

Playgrounds complete a neighborhood; they allow kids to socialize, learn and simply play. Families are the backbone to a neighborhood, because their bonds keep children and families there for generations.  In East Point, a community in the metro Atlanta area, a brand new playground is there for generations of kids to play with at the John D. Milner Athletic Complex courtesy of Let’s Play.

This is a complex that was just down the street from where I used to live. The old playground did anything but attract play. Its colors were dated and the play aspects that it had weren’t as interactive as today’s kids require.

Call it the influence of Ninja Warrior or the increased athleticism of today’s children, but they need more than four-chain steps, monkey bars and a platform.

Dog Man by Dav Pilkey takes the baton from Captain Underpants

If you have a young reader then you know Captain Underpants. He’s the erstwhile principal who fights evil while wearing his underwear and is often assisted by George Beard and Harold Hutchins, two fourth grade students. It’s also the publishing juggernaut that’s seen millions of books in dozens of languages, a feature film in the summer of 2017 and Dog Man is the character that started it all more than 40 years ago.

Kids want science to make sense-what do you do to help that?

This is a sponsored post, all thoughts are our own. As an ex-educator I know that teaching our kids about STEM is incredibly important. All you have to do is look at what jobs companies are hiring for and you’ll see its backbone of science, technology, engineering or math somewhere in that job description. Bayer recently conducted a study, which revealed exactly what parents are thinking and doing when it comes to educating their kids in science outside the classroom.  From helping your child’s teacher to tips for the homeschooling parent it’s got at least one insight that proves parents need to embrace science learning and keep kids interested in science.

Jungle, A Photicular Book, as close to it as you’ll get from home

Photicular photography is also known as Lenticular photography. Growing up I had some baseball cards that were produced in that manner. They provided a crude 3D effect that made it look like the players were swinging the bats if you moved the card. Currently our son has a lunchbox that use photicular photography on it. Jungle, A Photicular Book is the third in a series of books by Dan Kainen that has its subject matter running, scratching, flying and slithering off of the page.

In theory, a book on nature images based on the technology that I see on my child’s lunchbox is not entertaining. It’s the quality of the technological difference that really makes Jungle stand out as a book that must be seen to be believed.

Licensed PJ Masks backpacks and lunchboxes, for school and beyond

Hey-we’re a PJ Masks Ambassador and received payment or product for this post. When is a school backpack not a school backpack? When it turns into a bag. I never liked that Bazooka Joe joke, but, to be clear, that is our reiteration of the joke that reared its head this week.  Our kids went absolutely mental when they received the PJ Masks backpack and lunchbox. Per our kids sharing rule mantra, they got to pick one thing that would be theirs.

PJ Masks, backpack, pj masks backpack, lunchbox, son, school.
