Lessons learned on baby proofing the outlets

I’m cheap by nature and when we were shopping for outlet covers there didn’t seem to be any difference.  As with all things baby and parenting we’ve discovered better options than what we first tried.

As this is our first child we didn’t know how naturally attracted children are to electrical outlets.  Granted ours have the classic 90s gold covering, so maybe our child is just going up closer to get a look at his baby mug.  Never use gold appliances in plumbing or with your outlet covers.  We ran into this problem when we had to switch out a shower head as there, thankfully aren’t many options for people with gold plumbing.  Sometimes I feel like we live in the home of a pseudo successful suburban rapper, Continue reading Lessons learned on baby proofing the outlets

5 tips to make parenting easier and more fun

I love the start of a new week.  It gives you the opportunity to move past the mistakes and goofs of last week.  On that note Daddy Mojo made a couple basic parenting mistakes last week.  We know not to do them, but my lack of schedule or planning made them happen.   They may have wasted time, resources or caused Baby Mojo to melt down unnecessarily.   Continue reading 5 tips to make parenting easier and more fun

Fathers, buy your diaper bags carefully

When we were looking for a diaper bag my wife insisted that it be something that I’m comfortable with carrying, both in appearance and feel.  As usual, my wife was correct and also had a bit of foresight by knowing that I tend not to use things that I don’t like.

It’s not something I’d admit to in mixed company, but one of the unforeseen advantages of having a baby is being able to carry around the diaper bag.  Continue reading Fathers, buy your diaper bags carefully

Handmade toys, sock monkeys and crafty dads

I like toys that thud in a wooden way.  This is American Craft Week and nice wooden handmade blocks or trains are a great way to shape a childs imagination.   Alternately I’m a big fan of the sock monkey, another handmade toy that makes adults smile and kids happy. Odd jobs, balloons and Dan Rather

Babies love balloons.  Whenever we go to a store that sells balloons it’s always a welcome distraction to point to them, learn colors and attempt to quiet the gathering sonic storm from Baby Mojo.  Being responsible parents we knew that having  a balloon or two at his first birthday party would be a good thing.

Mom and I had planned a Dr. Suess themed party.  We had a big red blanket and I was in charge of getting some nice red balloons.  While I was at the store, looking at the packs of balloons with Baby Mojo I had some great memories of where I’ve been and what I’ve done.  Being an ex radio guy one would expect that I had a story or memory about a retro German 80s song; however, for a brief period of time I also did singing telegrams. Birthday party planning tips

Birthday parties for kids are meant to be fun.  It’s an occasion that should be celebrated and can be a great opportunity for kids to run around, socialize and (hopefully) sleep better tonight.  The line between a good and bad party is a fine one that can be easily navigated by following a couple really simple laws. Baby Mojo takes 6 steps and listens to Leonard Skinner

This afternoon Baby Mojo took six steps.  He’s been flirting with more than two steps for the past week so to see him taunt gravity was fun to see.  I contemplated telling my wife that I saw more than two steps before her.  The pros and cons I weighed and while I was thinking on this fate intervened and produced a story and some fabulous memories. Continue reading Baby Mojo takes 6 steps and listens to Leonard Skinner
