New all ages comics for October 11

What are the new all ages comics this week? The Halloween theme continues with many of the monthly titles having their spooky, ghost centered issues out. In the Daddy Mojo podcast we’re talking about Mech Cadet Yu, Wrapped Up, Plants vs. Zombies, Thor and much more.   Here’s a look at five new all ages comics that you’ll want to pay attention that are in stores.

Scooby Doo Where Are You? #86

Scooby Doo Where Are You? is one of the go-to all ages comics when it comes out. It’s priced at only $2.99 which is as low as they come. This is great for young readers who want to buy their own, or for the parents who don’t want to shell out more for a comic book kids might not like. This is classic Scooby Doo, solving mysteries and having fun. As it’s close to Halloween we see Frankenstein on the cover, Velma in the hospital and a couple of suspects who look like they’re up to no good.

Ms. Marvel #23

Ms. Marvel, issue #23 is out this week. This title is great for middle school kids who like their superheroes with a bit more unpredictable behavior. There are superhero hijinks, but the lessons and story are more geared towards tweens and low teens. Ms. Marvel is a fun comic that’ll also attract reluctant middle school readers who want something left of center to read. This is a cool comic that flies alongside Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.

Mech Cadet Yu #3

Mech Cadet Yu has been upgraded from mini-series to ongoing monthly series. It has everything that an 8  year old kid loves about reading like giant robots, kids fighting aliens alongside giant robots, lots of action and a great story. The reading ability might be too much for 8 year olds, but the content is fine. Also, kids may not request a great story, but that’s the secret sauce that keeps kids reading, which is exactly what they’ll do when they lay hands on an issue of Mech Cadet Yu.

Snoopy-What’s Wrong With Dog Lips?

Snoopy-What’s Wrong With Dog Lips? is classic Peanuts in a new story wrapper. When then monthly version of Peanuts stopped production they said that would continue with original graphic novels. Snoopy-What’s Wrong With Dog Lips? fulfills that promise with 176 pages of new art, new stories and a couple wet dog kisses and missed football kicks. Priced at $9.99 this is the kinds of book that kids 6 and up would kiss a friendly dog for.

Marvel Comics Digest Thor

With Thor: Ragnorok coming out all eyes are on the hammer. Marvel Comics Digest Thor has great Thor stories that are printed in popular-and much more compact, digest format. These are the semi-rectangular comic books that you’ll see at supermarket checkout lines. I don’t know if Marvel Comics Digest Thor will be there, but it’s certain to be at your local comic book store.

Suee and The Shadow is an original graphic novel by Ginger Ly with illustrations by Molly Park. This is a thick book whose 237 pages are some of the best slow-burn all ages graphic novel reading that you’ll discover this year if your down with a spooky vibe. It’s a pulp noir detective for the elementary school set that manages to build up genuine intrigue and mystery for readers aged 8 and up.

The Archies

Kudos to Riverdale for reinventing themselves on television and in the all age comics world. The Archies #1 is a new regular monthly title that concentrates its stories on The Archies, the band that exists in the fictional world of Riverdale. The band in imaginary, but the struggles and peer pressure that the band goes through are real and will easily relate to middle school kids and up as friendship,  fame and school collide.

Muppet Babies Omnibus

This is a joke, right? If you’ve listened to the podcast you’ll know that we often bemoan something as having shades of ‘Muppet Babies’. This is a subtle way for us to dig at a property or character that’s taking a look at the same character as a baby. It turns out the jokes on us because Muppet Babies are coming back to television on Disney Junior in 2018. To refresh people’s memories about Kermit and company as kids they’re re-releasing all of the Muppet Babies comic books from the mid 80’s. This is the first half of them, collecting issues 1-26 and will set you back $75.

Star Wars Coding

Do you use Scratch but need a push towards a direction in how to use it creatively? Star Wars Coding knows that the Force is with you and has step-by-step guides on how to create characters, play games, learn coding and compete against your friends. STEM based play is a fabulous way to get kids ahead of the game and Scratch is a great vehicle to teach them that.

Voltron Legendary Defender Vol. 2, #1

We were big fans of the first season’s all ages comics of Voltron Legendary Defender. This series from Lion Forge is smart and has the members using their intelligence, as well as, their brawn to save the day. Kids in upper elementary, middle school and higher will get the most out of this comic book. The younger ones will love the visuals, know the brand from Netflix and the older kids will dig reading the adventures.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Forever

My Little Pony: The Movie opens up this week. If you have a girl who is between the ages of 3 and 7 they have most likely already purchased tickets on your behalf. This week also has My Little Pony: Friendship is Forever #59 in stores. This is one of the go-to all ages comics for girls that has stood the test of time. It’s a gateway towards reading with characters that demographic is incredibly loyal to. In this issue Pinkie Pie finds out a secret about Rainbow Dash.

The new all ages comics this week have some great sci-fi with Star Wars, Voltron, comedy with Adventure Time, new stuff from The Archies and more.

New all ages comics for September 27

What are the new all ages comics this week? Halloween gets started for real with Halloween ComicFest and their mini-comics. These are all ages comics that you can give out to kids for special events, when they trick or treat or at your child’s school. A pack of 25 mini-comics only costs $4.99. We’re big fans of Jim Henson here and Power of the Dark Crystal is no exception. This 12 issue mini-series has issue #7 out this week and will be great for middle school kids who want some middle Earth type magic. There are two Batman ’66 graphic novels out, two My Little Pony comics and two Doctor Who books.  Here’s a look at five new all ages comics that you’ll want to pay attention that are in stores.

 Halloween ComicFest Mini-Comics

The Halloween ComicFest Mini-Comics are the most unique (and affordable!) Halloween treat you’ll give out. They’re a pack of 25 all ages comics that are made of the characters that kids 5 and up want to read. Donald Duck, Archie, Pokemon, Casper, Hotel Transylvania, as well as stories from brand favorites like Howard Lovecraft and Lumberjanes. There is also original stories and characters from Graphix called The Witch Boy, Lion Forge has Wrapped Up and more. Each pack has 25 comics and only costs $4.99, but they do sell out quickly, so go to your local comic book store today or you can try to order them online.

Disney Frozen Annual 2017

We mentioned how cool some annuals are for our favorite comics and this week has one that’ll resonate with kids who like Disney. Disney Frozen 2017 Annual has an all new action oriented tale about Olaf, Kristoff and Sven as they leave the kingdom and face various monsters and adventures on their trip.

Looney Tunes #239

At only $2.99 Looney Tunes is always a great go-to all ages comic book. The cover has Daffy Duck in a red shirt, a la Star Trek, so things aren’t looking good for him. Elmer Fudd is also in space and these issues are always a staple in elementary school libraries.

Miraculous #3

Lady Bug and Cat Noir are in New York City. Fans of the television show will like this comic book-and there are many fans of the show. Its flashy, crisp animation is almost directly copied to the comic book medium for these all age tales about adventure and superheroes.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur ends its run with issue #23. This series was always dependable and had enough action to hook in boys all the while having a girl as the lead. Toss in a dinosaur for good measure and you’ve got a great comic book. If you’re new to this series you’ll want to get some of the graphic novels when they come out.

The music in the podcast is from Doctor Turtle.

In Adventure Time #15 Princess Bubblegum gets tired of the ‘cute’ and takes Jake and Finn to the Goblin Kingdom to watch a thumb wresting match. This is silly fun that’s OK for ages 8 and up. Disney Descendants proved to be a success and The Rotten to the Core trilogy is back with the second book in the manga from Tokyopop. Star Wars Adventures

Star Wars Adventures from IDW Publishing is a hoot. This is only #2, but based on the first one this is Star Wars fun that ages 5 and up can enjoy. Suee and the Shadow is from Amulet Books and retails for $21.99.

Rust

Rust, Volume 3, Death of Rocket Boy is the 2017 edition of this graphic novel. The art and storytelling in Rust is absolutely perfect. Ages 9 and up will immediately lose themselves in any volume of Rust that they pick up. The final, Rust, Volume 4 will be released in February 2018. Get up to speed on the story with Rust, Volume 3.

School has started, the weather is cooling off and that means it’s time to read comic books. Well, you can read them inside, look at the leaves and find some really cool all ages comics that you and the kids can discover. And this is the week we’ve been waiting for as the comic that’s kept us on our seat’s edge is out. We’ll take a look at that one, plus lots of others. However, for the 100 foot view, here are five great all ages comics that’ll entertain young readers five years old and up.

Star Wars Adventures #1

Star Wars Adventures is one of the all ages comics we’ve been waiting for ever since we heard about it. It’s being produced by IDW Publishing and is for ages 5 and up. The existing Star Wars comics that are published from Marvel Comics are more geared for the tween audience and older. This one has art that fans of the Disney XD Star Wars animated series will connect with immediately.

Samurai Jack Quantum Jack #1

Samurai Jack Quantum Jack is a new mini-series that sees your favorite time traveling samurai, this time he’s the leader of a biker gang. If you liked the show on Cartoon Network or the mini-series that previously ended this will be right up your alley. Not a true all age comics due to the action, but ages 11 and up will be OK with this one.

Fruit Ninja #1

A comic book about Fruit Ninja-now they’ve just gone too far. If they can make a movie about emojis then they can make a comic book about Fruit Ninja. Juice Jitsu is the art that the Fruit Ninjas practice and slicing fruit protects them from time traveling super-villains. See…and you thought it wouldn’t sound interesting. Fruit Ninja has been downloaded over a billion times, so curiosity alone should make this one fun for ages 6 and up.

New all ages comics for August 23, 2017

This week the new all ages comics might appear redundant, but they’re not. Some of this week’s titles have different art styles and age preferences. Namely there are two separate titles featuring Archie and Josie & The Pussycats, with one being modern and the other ‘classic’. Let’s take a look at five of the best all ages comics that are great for elementary students or older.

Mickey and Donald, IDW publishing, jim Henson, jim Henson storyteller giants, x files, x files earth children are weird, mulder, scully, archie, riverdale, yo kai watch,

Archie

A tale of two Archies, three Archies actually. This week has Archie #23, as well as, Archie trade paperback Vol 4, that collects Archie issues 18-22. This is the new, modern Archie that’s more in line with Riverdale on the CW. It’s Jughead and friends in high school, with current problems and technology. This series will be of interest to grades 7 and up. For younger readers who want their Riverdale, dig into Betty & Veronica Friends Fall Digest #255. This is drawn in classic Archie style and the characters have simpler problems that usually revolve mistaken identities, petty jealousy or hamburgers. Grades 3 and will be OK for these ‘digest’ style books.

Yo Kai Watch

The art in the ongoing Yo Kai Watch comic book is manic, fun and what one would expect when looking at a typical Japanese manga. This is in comic book form, but the movement and scope of it seems larger than the 32 page package it comes in. This issue takes a look at Springdale in the future and readers in second grade and up will like this. Yo Kai Watch is one of the go-to all ages comics for younger readers that want to delve into ‘Pokémon’ style fun.

Mickey and Donald

Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck in their own one-shot book. At $5.99 this one if for the fans of the two of Walt Disney’s great creations. It’s 48 pages of new-to-you stories about a duck and a mouse. These stories might have been previously printed in another language and this is their first time in English.

Jim Henson Storyteller Giants

Jim Henson Storyteller are a series of mini-series comics from Boom Studios! In the past they’ve also done some on witches and now Jim Henson Storyteller Giants is available in graphic novel. It collects all of the individual comics that made up the Giants storyline which featured giant stories from all over the world. If you have a Middle Earth kid (or are one) then you’ll like this. The art style is such that it won’t attract younger readers, say eight or younger, but those 10 and up that like fabulous art with great stories will want more of this.

X-Files Earth Children are Weird

What if Mulder and Scully were children and went camping in the backyard? The shapes would all be aliens, strange noises would be monsters and snack time would consist of out of this world chips. X-Files Earth Children are Weird is a children’s book about these two, re-imagined as kids, simply letting their imaginations run wild. This is a book that’ll be great for ages 5 and up.
