All age comic books for August 26

It’s new comic book day this Wednesday and there are a couple really bright spots in all age comic books. The publishing world is still adapting to the schedule that’s been shifting since March. Because of that, one of the funniest and most creative humor books we’ve seen in years is coming to comic book (and other) stores this week. We thought it was released back in the spring, but Attack of the Stuff is finally coming to stores. It’s from author/illustrator Jim Benton and is absolutely hilarious. It’s weird, might take a moment to get some of the jokes, but is one of the best graphic novels that you’ll pick up this year.

In all age comic books UnderDog will be just the sort of all age escapism for elementary aged readers. Those upper elementary (and up) kids will love Marvel Action Captain Marvel TPB Vol. 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man #47. If they’re a little more cerebral and want something more indie, check out Usagi Yojimbo #12. This series is all action, being made into a Netflix series and has a samurai rabbit. It’s also one of the best all age comic books that you’ll see on a regular basis.

All age comic books for August 12

This week in all age comic books has lots of great graphic novels that will appeal to a wide variety of readers. If you have a (mainly) girl reader who likes humor then The Magical Adventures Pheobe and Her Unicorn is a must-read series. That graphic novel comes out this week and is hilarious. It’ll mainly skew towards girl readers, but those boys that pick it up will laugh just as much as the girls. To that end, the boys have a new graphic novel from Ben 10: The Creature From Serenity Shore that is loaded with the same elementary-aged monster fun that the show has.

In comic books, check out My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #89, The Amazing Spider-Man #46 and a couple others. We did pick up Transformers My Little Pony: Friendship in Disguise last week and absolutely loved it! It’s funny, loaded with ‘in’ jokes for Transformers and MLP fans and appropriate for ages 8 and up. Those younger fans might need some help reading it though. All age comic books for August 5

This week in all age comic books is back to some sense of normalcy. Normal, that is, if you grin from ear to ear when you see that the Transformers My Little Pony, Friendship In Disguise! mini-series is out this week with issue #1 of 4. This series looks so much fun. It certainly won’t be for everyone, but for those readers who like Transformers and can handle it when they’re not serious robots will love this. The previous Transformers crossover, like with Star Trek was awesome too.

If you have a middle school student who likes real-life graphic novels have them check out All Together Now from Hope Larson. She’s a New York Times-Bestselling author who has a way of connecting with girls aged 10 and up. Do you have a pre-k reader who is coming to grips with the alphabet? If so, Disney Block is the latest in the Alpha Block series that will have ages two and up glued to the pages. It’s a durable book with interactive die-cut pages that goes from A to Z with Disney characters aplenty.

For the action set upper elementary and up they have Marvel Action Captain Marvel, Marvel Action Avengers, Star Wars: The Clone Wars Battle Tales #3 of 5, Usagi Yojimbo and more. There are also lots of free comic books for the all age audience. For all of those free comic books just check out their website to see what’s new this week and what you might want to get.

All age comic books, back in gear for the start of the school year

All age comic books for July 29

These are the new all age comic books this week. I’ve seen the list for next week and it’s much heavier. The Amazing Spider-Man #45 is a great comic book for kids 10 and up. There are mild situations where the action is strong, but it’s nowhere near the level that they’d see in a PG-13 movie. We also must shout out to Usagi Yojimbo Color Classics #5 of #7 on IDW Publishing. This comic book is awesome and we grinned from ear to ear when we heard that Netflix is developing an animated show on the character.

If you’ve got an elementary aged reader and up have then check out a new graphic novel from Plants Vs. Zombies, The Garden Path. This series is so fabulous that you’ll rarely see it in an elementary school library because it’s always being checked out.

Keep an eye out for next week’s all age comic books because there are many more. The publishing schedule is still sorting itself out and you’ll be asked to wear a mask at your local comic book store, but it’s certainly worth supporting those businesses now.

All age comic books for July 22

This week in all age comic books is no joke. Literally, there are no new humor books that will interest or be appropriate for elementary aged readers or up. There are a couple superhero or action comic books, but for the most part this is the dog days of summer, albeit a couple weeks early.

If you’re headed to the comic book store this week for DC Comic Books they’ll be arriving on Tuesday. All of the other comic books are still coming out on new comic book day, which is Wednesday. Our local comic book store is pulling all of the DC Comics that we want so that multiple trips aren’t needed.

Another note regarding Free Comic Book Summer, formerly Free Comic Book Day. Some of those free comic books are coming to stores throughout the summer in different weeks. For example, many of the free ones we were looking for aren’t released until later. A complete list of those comic books can be found at Free Comic Book Day.

All age comic books for July 15

This week is like the first Monday in May all over again in that it’s Free Comic Book Summer. You see, Free Comic Book Day was cancelled this past May, but in its place is Free Comic Book Summer. For complete details and all of the comic books that you can get for free just check out Free Comic Book Day.

In all age comic books this week there a couple of the go-to comic books that will work for any boy or girl aged 7 and up. Looney Tunes #255 is out and this series is great for elementary ages and up, way up. We love this comic book and reading it with our kids is something we do every time it’s released. Upper elementary ages will also love The Amazing Spider-Man #44. The attitude is great for 10 year old kids and it’s jammed with action.

Jumping the pond this week is Asterix. This amazing popular French comic strip has been translated in is now available in graphic novels. We’ll be giving this one a look as it’s got a B.C feel to us and that’s a strip that we always loved.

All age comic books for July 1

It’s new comic book day and the all age comic books this week are up to their pre-holiday routine. By that I mean that there are some, but not at the number that there usually are. Publishers are back up to their release schedule, it’s simply that the Wednesday before a holiday is light. Having said that, this week has two great graphic novels in the vein of Science Comics from :01 First Second. Check out History Comics, The Great Chicago Fire or The Roanoke Colony, they’re from :01 First Second, so I bet that the quality and great storytelling behind Science Comics is front and center there also.

In all age comic books, check out Marvel Action Classics Avengers starring Iron Man #1. This series from IDW Publishing is awesome and great for kids in elementary school all the way through middle school.

It appears that the comic book deliveries are back on course, with a few changes. We spoke to our local comic book store and they said that the ones from DC Comics will be arriving on Tuesday. All of the other books and graphic novels will be arriving on Wednesday. Of course, check with your local comic book store to confirm their schedule, as well, as opening hours during these times.

Having said all of that, this is an excellent week for all age comic books and graphic novels. It’s obvious that there were many graphic novels that were delayed and are now hitting shelves at the same time. Comic book publishers tried to avoid that from happening with success, even though it meant no product coming out for two months.

For elementary aged readers they have Pizza and Taco: Who’s The Best?. There are also a couple of Disney graphic novels and Star Wars Adventures, which will be great for ages 6 and up.

Middle, high school readers and up who are looking for something left of center should check out Transformers and The Terminator mini-series.
