Best all age comics for December 14

There are only two more new comic book days before Christmas, so if you plan on getting a young reader or yourself something for that long weekend stock up now. The best all age comics this week run the gamut to cool graphic novels to a couple of the go-to comics that you can never go wrong with.

Let’s start off with two action/science-fiction graphic novels. Kids 6 and up will like Dragons Defenders of Berk, it’s an original graphic novel about Toothless, Dragon Training Academy and Vikings. If your kids have seen either of the films they’ll love this. The other action graphic novel is Bruce Lee: The Dragon Rises and it collects issues 1-4 of this outstanding comic book. Kids 8 and up will like this, mainly due to the reading required to really enjoy the comic. Bruce Lee is one of the best all age comics this year that blends classic action, science fiction and humor in a package that anybody can enjoy.

Best all age comics, comic books, dragon, graphic novels, all age comic books, bruce lee, bruce lee the dragon rises, adventure time, Simpsons comics, teenage mutant ninja turtles, batman teenage mutant ninja turtles,

Two funny graphic novels that’ll hit their sweet spot is Adventure Time: Ice King and Simpsons Comics Knockout. Both of these books are laugh out loud funny, have distinctive art and are more palatable for younger audiences in print, than their television counterpart.

In humor comic books check out Mickey & Donald Christmas Parade #2, Spongebob Comics #63, as well as, My Little Pony: Friends Forever #35 and others to tickle the yuletide funny bone.

Fans of all age comic books who dig super heroes will be drawn to the heroes in a half shell, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures Vol 2. A new comic book that brings together two great characters for a mini-series is Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. #2 of #6 is out this week and this series is outstanding. It brings real action and mood to a genre that normally paints its superheroes as cartoonish or too young for most 7 year olds.

Invader Zim, Mega Princess, Scooby Doo Where Are You? and Sonic Universe are also out this week.

Where’s your closest comic book store? What are you reading? If you take any photos be sure to tag it with #AllAgeComics to get new ideas or share what you think others should check out.

Best all age comics for December 7, #NCBD

With the holidays and Christmas just around the corner this is a great week to think about some presents that kids will really want. OK, sometimes what they really want isn’t what they receive. Specifically we’re talking the best all age comics for this week and call it good timing or effective marketing but there is a great variety of graphic novels that will appeal to kids 5 and up.

For girls aged 5 and Barbie is back! I know, she really never went anywhere, but her presence in print has certainly been lacking until now. Papercutz has released Barbie: Puppy Party, it’s an original graphic novel that ages 5 and up will enjoy. The younger ages will need some helping reading along, however the content will run parallel to their play time activities and toys. Self-guided readers 7 and up will be able to read by themselves to Barbie: Puppy Party. Here is the shocker, Barbie: Puppy Party is not just about being pretty and playing with puppies. There are lots of great messages in the book and it approaches them in a non-preachy way that would otherwise be a turn off for kids.

Lumberjanes, mickey mouse, adventure time, boom studios, comic book, comics, best all ages comics, Barbie, Barbie puppy party, puppy party, jim Henson storyteller giants, archaia, varmints,

Also in humor comic books this week Adventure Time #59, Duck Avenger #2 and Looney Tunes #234 are out. Another very enjoyable and quirky graphic novel for ages 9 and up this week is Boom Box 2016 from Boom! Studios. These are all new stories about being in a band, playing music and being a teen. If you’re a fan of Lumberjanes, Goldie Vance, Archie, The Backstagers or more this is your jam. It’s priced at $9.99 and has 44 original pages.

Mickey Mouse also has a new graphic novel out this week, Mickey Craziest Adventures. It has Mickey meeting aliens, dinosaurs and other strange creatures, The art is this book is other-worldly and looks, psychadelic,  strange and not at all Disney, all the while having the charm of a classic Disney cartoon. This won’t be good for a 5 year old, but your 8 year old who needs to be reminded that Mickey Mouse is cool will dig this.

One of the best all age comics this week is Jim Henson Storyteller Giants. Archaia, an imprint of Boom! Studios has put out a couple of these series, Dragons and Witches both had stunning art, magical stories and reminds older readers that art is a part of the comic book world. Part 1 of this 4 part mini-series is about a giant is treated by a village that has no reason to fear him and his quest to improve his reputation. There is a fair amount of reading in this comic and its dreamy, middle Earth appearance won’t immediately attract ‘superhero’ kids. However, this is fabulous on many levels and ages 12 and up who want something fresh, original, beautiful should check this one out.

Western fans are left out in the cold when it comes to comics. This week come inside and read Varmints. It’s an original graphic novel about a pair of siblings traveling the old west looking for the man who shot their mother. This is drawn in a way that comic strip fans will gravitate towards and is very thick, with a longer story than you might imagine. It’s also refreshing to read something set in the past, without a hint of technology. Ages 12 and up will like this simply due to the fact that there is some very mild violence.

The great and funky music in the podcast is from Polyrhythmics. Where is my closest comic book store? Have you heard the podcast-if so, a review on iTunes, Google Play, Podomatic or Soundcloud would be appreciated.

Voltron, Legendary Defender, #4 review

Voltron Legendary Defender is a five-issue mini-series from Lion Forge Comics that takes place immediately after episode 108, Rebirth, from the latest Voltron series that’s airing on Netflix. The content in the comic book is great for ages 9 and up because it teaches teamwork and friendship, but also has action and space travel to keep kids interested.

Best all age comics for November 16

The middle of November, relatives are coming into town or you are going on the road. What are the best all age comics that you need to make the road trip more tolerable? It could be a comic book or two at your otherwise comic-free house to entertain small people. There are some classic ones like Simpsons Comics and Sonic hitting stores, both of which are always dependable.

First off let’s start with the teens. There are two cool comic books that might fly under their radar. If you have a 13 year old boy or older and you want them to feel at home pick up either one of these two. He Man Thundercats #2 brings the two 80’s franchises together in a mash up that parents-in-the know will dig and teens who like middle Earth style action will also. The trailer for Kong: Skull Island is everything I hoped it would be. The comic book Kong of Skull Island has some incredibly impressive monster art, smashing, jungle scenes that are great for those same ages.

For the true all age comics there are seemingly sets of everything. There are two Archies. Archie #14 from Archie Comics is the more contemporary, updated version and Archie Comic Super Special #7 is the thicker, ‘classic’ Archie.

All age comics, best all age comics, comic books, Donald duck, comics, doctor who, kong, he man thundercats

There are three Doctor Who comics, not including the final issue of Supremacy of the Cybermen min-series.

Scooby got a reboot, did you hear? Yeah, Scooby Apocalypse is the zombie Scooby that’s good for teen readers. Their most recent issue came out last week. This week sees Scooby Doo Where Are You #75 and Daphne has to get all warrior princess on some ghosts in order to help the team. This is a classic and every issue can be included as one of the best all age comics when you see it.

Our 5 year old may not know it, but he’s super excited about Donald Quest, a five issue mini-series starring steampunk Donald and his partner Mickey. Can our 5 year old read? No. But he loves looking at Donald Duck and this one is right up his alley. If Donald isn’t your scene there is also a new Uncle Scrooge, Mickey Mouse and Darkwing Duck available. The music in the podcast is from Halloween.

Space Battle Lunchtime #6 is brilliant simplicity for 7 and up

Space Battle Lunchtime is the best (almost) all age comic that you’re not reading.  Its title is ridiculously cool-all that’s missing are bacon, robots or ninjas to utterly claim the title for best comic title ever. The premise is simple; Peony is a baker from Earth who is competing in a mashup cooking/gladiator competition on another planet.

Best all age comics for November 9, Spongebob Comics and more

What are some good comics for my kid to read? We get asked that a lot and we do have some go-to best all age comics that are great for boys or girls. One of those titles is Spongebob Comics. Each issue has a couple of different stories, is packed with creative art, funny dialogue and does so without the rudeness that might put some parents off. It’s a great title for ages 6 and up, plus the comic book doesn’t have stories that continue to another issue. Readers can rest assured that you won’t be tricked into reading the second part of a lame story, but you shouldn’t because each issue of Spongebob Comics is flat out funny.

This week some of the best all age comics combine the Batman and TMNT, kidlit has Wimpy Kid, sponges, ponies and a DeLorean.

A mini-series that brings together two of our favorite titles is out this week. Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures #1 (of 6) puts the all ages titles for these two mega heroes in one book. This is great for any age, the violence will be the same as the Nickelodeon show (not bad at all)  and it’ll give young kids a ‘real’ super team up.

In humor comics this week kids 8 and up who love oddities and laugh just a bit outside the box will love Chimichanga. It’s the story of a freak show bearded girl who befriends a skinny creature who has the world’s worst face.  Don’t be fooled by its surroundings, this is a fun title that’s just enough on the outside to let kids be cool and rebel, but with a fabulous comic you’ll want to read too.

Some of the other best all age comics this week are the staples, like Donald Duck, Adventure Time, Doctor Who, Back to the Future, Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy and others.

We also mention some of the kidlit releases here and this week sees the 500 pound gorilla of kidlit, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down hit stores. Mention this series to an upper elementary or middle school student and their eyes light up. Our 7 year old neighbor saw our copy of the book arrive and I nearly had to tackle her for it. This is the book that your kids will want to read this fall.

If you have a teen reader check out WWE Then Now Forever and Godzilla: Rage Across Time. Both of these series have action and situations that are too much for elementary age kids, but will fit the bill for upper middle school and up.

What are your kids reading? We’ll be reviewing some of the best all age comics later this week. Spoiler alert: they’re great, but we’ll break down who they’re good for and why it deserves your money.

All age comics for October 26

The week before Halloween means it’s the final chance for you to pick up the Halloween Comicfest Mini-Comics. They’re $4.99 and have 25 individual comics that are great to pass out for small people in costumes. Speaking of costumes, the Greatest Halloween Contest Ever is happening now. Just snap a photo of someone in costume holding one of the free full or mini-sized Halloween Comicfest Comics and upload it. Winners will receive a $500 or $100 shopping spree to your local comic book store. In all age comics there is something for every age reader regardless of what they like to read.

This is the week that has lots of Joe Books. Joe Books are the publisher that puts out Disney’s Darkwing Duck, Disney Frozen, Disney Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, Dreamwork’s Shrek and many others. All of those comics are out this week for the bargain price of only $2.99 an issue.

All age comics, comic books, comic book store, action cat and hero bug, star vs. the forces of evil, peanuts, dc superheroes, KISS, future quest, moon girl and devil dinosaur,

For tween or teen readers there are two fun choices out this week that might fly under their radar. Future Quest is a mash up of the classic Hannah Barbara characters with a story set in modern times. It has lots of action, throwback appeal and some great, realistic art. KISS is most certainly for teen readers because of its future dystopian future and the themes around it. However, this series looks like buckets of fun. It’s a story that was inspired by The Elder, the KISS LP from 1981 that was really under rated, go give it a listen.

One of the best monthly all age comics that you pick up each month is Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Issue #12 comes out this week and the series is a whoot about a girl, going to school, STEM education and dinosaurs. Sonic Universe, X-Files Origins #3, Doctor Who, Lumberjanes and the trade paperback for Action Cat and Adventure Bug hit stores this week.

What are some of the best all age comics for your kids? There is something for every reader and if you need help just ask the folks at the front when you arrive. It can be a little intimidating to go into a comic book store when you don’t know what you’re looking for, but they’ll make the process quite simple.
