Swifter: Man Up is clever, funny, great advertising aimed at men

America loves a good comeback story. Back when the Olympics were on television there was a series of commercials with the tag line ‘Thank you, Mom.  P&G, Proud Sponsor of Moms’.  Prior to that there was the whole Pampers, so easy a dad can do it campaign.  Personally, neither campaign spoke to me in a negative or positive light.  The second one was a bad ad campaign and the first had a bad tag line, but I could understand who they were aiming for. The life and times of a 3 year old-what to expect from a toddler

Who is this little person in front of me?   Most of the time they’re an angel, but at other times they know just how to push my buttons.  A parent of a 3-year old toddler has thought these things and others.  As Toddler Mojo turns 3 here are some of the benchmarks that you have to look forward to or remember with a sly grin if your kiddos are older. Tips for planning a three-year old toddler birthday party

Congratulations!  Your toddler is about to turn 3 years old and it’s time to have a birthday party where you invite their friends, in addition to family members.  There was some discussion about the third birthday.  Do we invite his pre-K friends from school to this birthday or when they turn 4?  We decided to do it when ours turned 3 and it turns out that the other parents had the same questions.  Here’s a cheat sheet of what we learned.  Continue reading Tips for planning a three-year old toddler birthday party

Taken 2 is exactly what you want it to be

When Taken came out in 2008 it was a movie that my wife and I loved.  For me it brought back memories of classic Eastwood and Bronson, but with more plot development and bigger stunts.   Taken also had an artsy vibe to it that legitimized it as more than an action movie.  Continue reading Taken 2 is exactly what you want it to be

Crafty Dad: Make a city out of cardboard boxes

For toddlers or small children you need affordable activities that won’t break the bank.  We recently had to occupy a dozen or so children who were 5 and under.  My wife found the most creative and relatively simple craft on Pinterest, making a city out of cardboard boxes. I’m getting old: The evolution of tool to a Dad

Getting older is natural and I love it.  I embrace aging and the strengths that it provides you-like advanced wisdom or the ability not to be carded for alcohol.  One barometer of aging that I didn’t realize would be a factor is the word “tool”.  Over the years “tool” has been a band, an adjective, a noun and lacey-frilly things that get wrapped around the house on special occasions.      Continue reading I’m getting old: The evolution of tool to a Dad

Looper is fresh, original and reminds you of why movies are great

Time travel can be a tough sell to have in an action/science fiction movie.  Looper has grand aspirations as it tells the tale of an assassin or Looper who works for the mob from 2072.  The send their targets back in time to have them killed 30 years previously.  Time travel movies can be confusing if you make it too high brow or scare off the audience that are concerned that they won’t understand.  Continue reading Looper is fresh, original and reminds you of why movies are great
