Two can’t-miss documentaries on Netflix, for different reasons. #StreamTeam

We’re part of the Stream Team for Netflix and were compensated for this post. All thoughts are our own. My wife and I binge watch. We’ll find a show that both of us agree on and watch every episode. It’s the TV equivalent of a box of doughnuts. As a way to shake things up I took a moment to scroll through categories that are rarely visited from us and found two incredible films. Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made and Chuck Norris vs. Communism. Both are documentaries on Netflix, but are engaging enough to cast a wide net of entertainment that’ll grip anyone with memories of the 80’s.

Secret Coders: Paths & Portals, succeeds as a graphic novel and STEM tool

Secret Coders: Paths & Portals is the second book in the series by Gene Luen Yang and Mike Holmes. It’s a fascinating graphic novel that wears its love for STEM on its sleeve. It also manages to do so in a way that draws in non-coders in a way that will make them want to explore the subject matter more.

That’s important to point out because this is a graphic novel, but it’s unlike any one that you’ve read before.  Most graphic novels simply have the goal of being entertaining. Paths & Portals wants to be entertaining, as well as, show kids what coding can do, how it’s helpful and why it’s fun.

You don’t have to be a kid or speak French to enjoy French Playground

Kindie and children’s music are fascinating subcultures. To distant observers they’re the same, yet once you dig into them they’re quite different, just like children. French Playground is a compilation of French and Quebec music that blends both worlds of kindie and children’s music into its own creation that almost defies categorization.

A new playground for generations of kids, now open in East Point, GA

This post is brought to you by Let’s Play, an initiative by Dr Pepper Snapple Group that provides kids and families with the tools, places and inspiration to make active play a daily priority by building and improving playgrounds and donating sports equipment to groups in need. I’m a Let’s Play Ambassador and was compensated for this post. All opinions are my own.

It’s a nice playground and kids that play on it might never know that it was built in 6 hours. The playground at the John D. Milner Athletic Complex in East Point, GA is now open to entertain kids as they run, jump, play, socialize and get their sillies out. Parents know that the last phrase is important for kids because it takes a combination of physical exercise and mental stimulation to make play as great as it can be.

At the intersection of Octonauts and Star Wars

Our oldest son just turned 7. Prior to much planning or research he opted for a Star Wars themed birthday party at home. For a kid turning 7 a Star Wars birthday party is a safe bet. We planned some cool Star Wars themed games for the party, sent out the invitations and let the Force be with us. Shortly after that we went to Toys R’ Us to see what toys were new and popular. It was then that he saw things that neither of us expected to see, Octonauts toys.

He was a couple isles ahead of us and I heard him yell, “daddy, daddy, Octonauts toys”. This had to be a mistake, I thought. I knew there weren’t any toys from that series. Last spring every big box store put their Octonauts toys on clearance and hasn’t had them since.

Octonauts, star wars, phineas & ferb, octonauts toys, yoda, gups,

Getting in the dress up spirit with PJ Masks Halloween Party

“I’m going as Owlette”, she said. Well, that’s one reason why those two are such good friends, I thought to myself.  Our oldest was leaving science club as he was having a conversation with her. PJ Masks is a popular topic of conversation at the early elementary school level. Being that it’s Halloween time the PJ Masks costumes will certainly be front and center at your door this year.
