What does a stay at home dad do on Mother’s Day?

In a stereotypical situation the mom takes care of the kids, goes shopping, does some errands and cooks.  In those situations the ideal gift for Mother’s Day is a day at the spa or time away from the family.  This would leave the father in charge of the family where it’s presumed that the house would implode, the hot water heater would burst; no diapers would be changed and if they were it would result in the babies poop ending up on dad’s face.

April iPad apps that will entertain toddlers

Our iPad is a great piece of machinery.  As Toddler Mojo gets older we’re learning more and more that it can be an invaluable tool in educating him and keeping dad sane.  The iPad sure isn’t a toy.  However, all of those stories you hear about children loving the iPad are true and sometimes those quiet moments your child has with it are priceless.

Here are three great apps that can really help out mom and dad when yon toddler needs a distraction. Continue reading April iPad apps that will entertain toddlers

Mommy Mojo says, Publix- Not your ordinary grocery store

Going into Publix, it’s pretty much standard fare.  You grab your cart, and you start working through your shopping list.  Most people think of grocery shopping as another chore; something you do as quickly as possible to get on with your life.  There are three areas that make Publix excel: their Customer Service, Pharmacy and Entertainment.  When I stroll in with my toddler on Saturday mornings, I get a message: Pay it forward. Baby shower gift ideas to get the Dad involved

Baby shower gift ideas to get the Dad involved sounds like a challenge akin to a camel fitting through the eye of a needle.  Husbands who (mistakenly) attended one of their wedding showers may be under the impression that baby showers are as fraught with dangerously laced estrogen. Australian bullying wrap up and tough love from dad

It bothers me when a youth does something criminal and then the media talk to the neighbors or parents.  “Well, they were such a nice young child, it just doesn’t seem like something that they would do”, the parent would say.  It doesn’t matter the crime, the statement from the parent is always the same.

That is the part that bothers me.  The parent saying such a stereotypical halfhearted non apology doesn’t’ do anything to help the youth, victim or family.  I’ve long waited for a parent to step up and say something along the lines of ‘my child screwed up and they’ll pay the consequences’.   A dad in Ipswich, Australia has just done the next best thing by driving them to the police station after he caught his two children bullying a younger one. Casey Haynes, bullies, parents and the hypocrisy of YouTube

It’s been a busy week for viral videos, there’s the child laughing at mom blowing her nose, that strange creature with an umbrella and Casey Haynes getting bullied at school.  The first two were great to see, but the bullying video has really taken on a life of its own for many reasons. Mattel’s Clawdeen Wolf doll causes concern for parents

Toddler Mojo learned that he can close his eyes without going to sleep.  He’s started squinting, then laughing, squinting his eyes, closing them and then falling on the floor laughing with his eyes closed.  Some news stories make us want to close our eyes and this is one of them.

Clawdeen Wolf is a new entry in Mattel’s hugely popular Monster High doll line.  Clawdeen Wolf looks like a stripper, granted that’s not too different from the Bratz dolls. Continue reading Mattel’s Clawdeen Wolf doll causes concern for parents

Parenting tips from a SAHD-Snacks

My wife and I are very lucky to have a child that loves and (has so far) stuck to a schedule.  He wakes up at the same time, has breakfast, a snack, lunch, nap, dinner, bath and goes to bed each day within ten minutes every day.  It requires a bit of timing and patience, but it allows us to have a nice dinner together and know what to expect during the day with a 17 month old toddler.
