Now that there are small people around who really get into dressing up; it is more fun and I am super eager to get into costume with them this year. However this is the first year that our oldest has really expressed an interest and his younger brother is following suit. Previously the eldest was lukewarm to dressing up, but loved looking like an animal. It was at a parade last year where he realized that if he dressed up and looked the part, then people will give or in that case, throw more candy his way.

This year we built the family costume around his costume choice at Buy Costumes.

Toy animals, pink stuff and a child’s desire to help dad before going to the Oncologist

The Oncologist is not your typical doctor. The audiologist, cardiologist, plastic surgeon and immunologist, just to mention a few can all be figured out their prefix. Granted one may think that the plastic surgeon only works on little plastic dolls, but what child hasn’t ripped the arm off of Joe or Barbie? However, what is the ‘onco’ that these doctors are treating? I never knew that fact until I was an adult and kind of bummed out when I had to go see one. Everything is fine now. We have quarterly visits to Doctor Lee and our son wasn’t too happy with us on our recent visit.

We cook for the family, there we are. Sometimes through the process of cooking we get in a rut of conformity, stale recipes and sleepy taste buds. I’ve always been a fan of mushrooms. One of my top 5 favorite dishes is the classic large portabella top with capers, horseradish, feta, bacon and pimento cheese. For this task we took a normally meat dominant dish and replaced half of it with mushrooms. Let’s see if our taste buds noticed!

The International Photography Contest for Kids 2014 is open

I take lots of photos for work. Some of them are great and some of them are simply stock images for moods or seasons that I need. Our almost 5 year old is getting a child’s camera for his birthday (don’t tell him!) and he isn’t allowed to take photos with ours yet. However, in honor of the International Photography Contest for Kids by National Geographic Kids we let him take a couple shots.

Taking the kids out for a pre-school picnic with @FritoLay #Ad
