Parents, runny noses, Boogie Wipes and DISCO!

The many benefits of cold weather are skiing, snowboarding and blue horizons pierced by pine trees that challenge the sky for height.  Alas, if you’re a mom or dad who doesn’t happen to live in Colorado, then cold weather means runny noses, sick children and a yearning to be a parent in one of those mountain states.

A child with a runny nose is a disgusting thing.  Your child with a runny nose is an angel that needs to have their nose wiped before they re-enact the movie Up with mucus bubbles. Continue reading Parents, runny noses, Boogie Wipes and DISCO!

An iPad for under performing students in Georgia-UPDATE

Last week I wrote a post about the fact that the state of Georgia is thinking about purchasing an iPad for some of the under performing students in Georgia.  Unbelievably Georgia officials are still in serious talks and consideration to follow through on this idea. It was a bad idea last week and it hasn’t gotten any better with seven days of age. Continue reading An iPad for under performing students in Georgia-UPDATE

A parent’s view on Skins and a la carte television stations

As the parent to a toddler who just figured out that they can turn on the television I say who’s up for a good discussion on whether Skins is really child porn?  No? Ok, let’s engage in a debate over how the UK version of the show is much racier and the U.S. version is nothing, so us tight underwear Americans should chill out. Family planning with White Lion

Becoming a dad and having children is a heavy, life altering responsibility.  It’s loads of fun, but does require planning and advance thought.  When my wife and I were thinking about having a baby she asked me for a motivational song to help us get pumped about the pending parenthood.

“How about Wait, by White Lion”, I said without missing a beat. Continue reading Family planning with White Lion

Plastic pegs, decorating wives and drunk reindeer

The light timer is a magical invention.  Even outside of the Christmas season we have a couple timers that turn some of the lights on and off.   You can tell when my wife is home because every, literally, every light is on in the house.  She is single handedly trying to boost Georgia Powers annual profits.

So decorating for her during Christmas is a high point, both in enjoyment and watts used.    Continue reading Plastic pegs, decorating wives and drunk reindeer

A free tip on how families can save money

Regardless of the time of year, you need to save money.  The single guy down the street, the family up the road and the retired couple that live next door all want to pay less for the stuff they buy.  The internet has made comparing prices effortless, but it’s important not to forget the old school ways that companies advertise. The pros and con of using vinegar to clean

Prior to being a stay at home dad I had a wide variety of cleaning chemicals in my house.  I even had two pints of acid that was kept in a thick black bottle, triple layered zip sealed bag.  The acid didn’t make the move with us to our new home and is back at the old house, probably being surrounded by the EPA right now.

I was the single mans Breaking Bad, except I didn’t do anything with the chemicals, especially clean.  Continue reading The pros and con of using vinegar to clean
