We had two bits of good news recently. Mommy Mojo gave birth to More Mojo, which allowed us to spend three nights on the sofa watching mancave movies. A wife in the hospital recovering from birth can be a blessing if you choose your movies carefully. We chose Thor and X-Men First Class, did we choose wisely? Continue reading Dad spends a night in the mancave: Thor and X-Men First Class

The Way is personal & professional for its star & director
The Way is the latest movie starring Martin Sheen. It’s story driven, with no special effects, sexual overtones, bad language or nudity. In other words, it’s a tough sell in Hollywood. We caught a sneak preview of The Way and the movie is effective, well told and a welcome distraction. Continue reading The Way is personal & professional for its star & director
Real Steel: Interview with Dakota Goyo and swag bag-giveaway!
We saw Real Steel and it’s much better than its premise. That sounds like a slam, but when your premise is robot boxing that’s guided by a father/son relationship, you’re not expecting too much. The movie is really entertaining, packed with action and uses CGI very efficiently. Continue reading Real Steel: Interview with Dakota Goyo and swag bag-giveaway!
The Way is an earnest father/son movie that entertains in many ways
The Way is the story about Tom (Martin Sheen), an American father who’s living a simple, successful life in California as an optometrist. Tom’s son, Daniel (Emilio Estevez) is killed in an accident while walking “El Camino de Santiago”, a 500 mile trail that crosses from France into Spain. Estevez doesn’t appear in the movie much, but did direct it. After Tom arrives in France to collect the body he decides to embark on the pilgrimage that his son was doing. Along the way Tom meets some fellow travelers who have their own reasons for doing the trek. Continue reading The Way is an earnest father/son movie that entertains in many ways
Real Steel is built to last and solid entertainment
Real Steel is set in the near future, when robot boxing is very popular. Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) is a promoter who has discovered that his long forgotten son is limbo due to the death of his mother. Charlie is not the father type and is more concerned with scoring the next fight rather than being a good dad. Continue reading Real Steel is built to last and solid entertainment
Dad spends a night in the mancave: Hanna
Sometimes I don’t need to watch a movie. Some previews are so enjoyable and give away major plot points that you don’t need to bother with the time or money to watch the actual movie. Hanna had a really good trailer and now that it’s available on demand we broke down and rented it.
A visit to Alliance Theatre to see Theatre for the Very Young
The attention span of a toddler is tougher to navigate than the mood cycles of woman who’s eight months pregnant. If you plan things poorly then you’ll be up against nap time. Don’t bring enough snacks or supplies and your activity will be cut short by 23 months of crabby. Continue reading A visit to Alliance Theatre to see Theatre for the Very Young
Daddy Mojo watches TV: Up All Night
Up All Night is a new sitcom on NBC. It’s described as an irreverent look at modern parenthood, with the mom going back to work and dad staying at home to care for their young girl. Any show with a stay-at-home dad character can’t be all bad, so a real stay-at-home dad (with Mojo!) gave the pilot episode a try. Continue reading Daddy Mojo watches TV: Up All Night
