My wife can testify to the fact that I’m a fanboy. I subscribe to a couple comic books and can recite more than a couple lines from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. There were a couple items this past week that fanboys, marketers, PR people, GLAAD and the National Association of the Deaf can celebrate. Continue reading Batman is not gay and superheroes can be deaf

Moms and dads need entertainment and these posts, for one reason or another will do just that
A dad reads The Mommy Diaries by Dallas Louis
“Mommy books” can be a tough genre to read if you’re a parent. If you’re a parent then the subject matter is familiar, you have a busy schedule and probably know what will happen in the story. I’ve read many books that take a humorous look at parenting and most of them get a collective ‘meh.’ Continue reading A dad reads The Mommy Diaries by Dallas Louis
Dad spends a night in the mancave: Haywire
If there is a void in the mancave movie genre it’s the lack of art and the absence of strong women. Granted that could also be the appeal of mancave movies. A perfect example of this is The Expendables, which doesn’t pretend to have either of them. With that void in mind Steven Soderbergh made Haywire, starring MMA superstar Gina Carano. The Avengers is the movie fans want and audiences can enjoy
There are countless ways that The Avengers could have been messed up. It’s the stuff of legendary internet memes, with Lego characters making a bad version of the movie. For the past year my inner self has been writing a series of posts called Hulk vs. Batman. The blog posts would consist of a review of each month’s issue of Batman and Hulk. In reality it was just an excuse to try to deduct the cost of my comic books as a ‘business expense.’ Continue reading Hulk smash: Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, May 5

We took the trip as a family, but these tips work for anyone visiting any of the parks. Continue reading Tips for having more fun at Walt Disney World
Ridley Pearson visits Little Shop of Stories, May 3, 7PM
My family and I just returned from Disney Social Media Moms at Walt Disney World. While I was there I had the opportunity to meet Ridley Pearson and hear him speak about getting kids motivated about reading. Ridley was a very engaging speaker who effortlessly weaved tales about Dave Barry, 10 foot Pythons and the creative process of writing a book into an entertaining, linear story. Continue reading Ridley Pearson visits Little Shop of Stories, May 3, 7PM
Van Halen concert review, Kool & The Gang and Billy Mack
The new Van Halen release is very good. I reviewed A Different Kind of Truth recently and the songs are surprisingly hard and well crafted. I also commented that there was no way I was paying more than $150 to see anybody in concert. Thankfully, my fabulous wife came through and won us some tickets! Continue reading Van Halen concert review, Kool & The Gang and Billy Mack
