Pie Face Game, a fun testament to truth in advertising

You’ve probably seen one of the Pie Face Game videos on YouTube. The first one we saw was called ‘World’s Coolest Granddad’ or something like that. It featured a child with his grandfather playing the game. The child was laughing hysterically, as were all of the people in the room. It was a genuine, simple homemade video that let millions of people see the family have fun, as well as, asking what the heck is that game. All of the kids played Pie Face Game recently; they laughed hysterically, made a mess and tried desperately to convince, mom, dad or any of the grands to get in with them.

Modarri cars, durable, buildable kits for 8 and up

We were provided with product for review.  All thoughts are our own. Large plastic buses are the gateway for kid vehicles. When they turn 4ish, they start to crave Hot Wheels and it’s possible that phase lasts for decades. Shortly after this age kids want to create things.  Certainly the age of LEGO will satisfy that. However with cars kids want to pretend they’re driving them, push them down with their fingers and have them careen of cliffs, play sets or race down the driveway. Modarri is the car that fills this void, it’s something that children 8 and up can build, customize, is highly durable and rolls without any effort.

A Modarri kit comes with everything (including the screwdriver) that a child needs to create their own finger driven car. You can choose from dirt, street or track, with each design taking on a scaled down appearance of their full size brethren.

The Night Before Christmas: A Brick Story, studly Santa

Take two things that are wildly popular with children. The Night Before Christmas and LEGO. One is a classic story about Santa Claus delivering presents, while the other is a brick based toy that generations of children have loved playing with. I’m kicking myself for not thinking of this first. The Night Before Christmas: A Brick Story is simply a LEGO retelling of that classic tale and our children are going bonkers for it.

eeBoo has those creative and quirky toys that you can never find

Whenever we vacation in a new city I always visit their toy and book stores. That way I can see what brands or toys are popular in other parts of the country, as well as get introduced to some possible local authors. The toys that you see in those stores have that look. They look individualized, special and like they were made just for your child. Many of those toys also won the Best Toy Award from the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio. eeBoo is a site that contacted us recently and has oodles of toys and activities that fit that bill. Through December 12 they’re also have 20% off if you use code dadddymojo20 when you check out.

The concert action in Guitar Hero Live is everything you axe’d for

We received a copy of the game for review purposes. I play guitar. I play guitar in my car. Sometimes I also casually strum at my desk in-between thoughts or cat videos. For air guitar or real musicians anywhere Guitar Hero Live is for you.  It’s all guitar. You axe demons; Satriani wannabes and alt-rock legends get your groove on or head to the car, because this is as close to playing in front of festival crowds as most of us will get. In my case, that’s a good thing. After two hours of playing it skills improved, but not to the extent where the crowd or my band mates approved of what I was playing.

Turkey TV and movies that are worth your time on Netflix

Hey, we’re part of the StreamTeam from Netflix and were compensated for this post. Having said that, we love movies and it shows. Turkey entertainment can take a variety of forms.  They’re the films that you expect to be slightly bad, but perform better than you expect. Are they good because they’re bad or so bad that they’re good? It could be the lightweight fare and exceeds or the potential trash you watch that all but puts glue to the sofa cushions with a two hour time lock. A quick tour of Netflix lent us these television and movie options that sure didn’t win any awards, but locked down a solid chunk of entertainment time in our house.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School, is go-to reading for ages 8 and up

Some constants about 10 year old kids are that they like pizza, cartoons, video games and hanging out with their friends. They’re also huge fans of the Wimpy Kid series. It’s a publishing juggernaut about the life of Greg Heffley, a tween/teen boy who is discovering life and trying to avoid his family.  “All my friends read it, they’ve read all of them” our 13 year old niece told us when I asked her about Wimpy Kid.  Now that we have a young reader in the house I’m realizing just how good-and impactful the Wimpy Kid books are for that age. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School is no exception, I read the book- it’s fabulous and the crowd at our school’s Scholastic book fair purchased every copy in stock.

Smiles Ahead: Cool Music for Cool Families is jangle pop perfect kindie

Pop quiz hotshot: you’re traveling in the car and need some kindie music for the family, but don’t want to purchase more than one release. What do you do? First off, keep planning that road trip and get your paws on Smiles Ahead: Cool Music for Cool Families. It’s a kindie greatest hits of sorts because the songs are all previously unreleased and from some of the biggest and best names in kindie today.

More importantly the songs on Smiles Ahead are new from the artists and do not feel like rejects from their individual full length releases. It’s the elephant in the room. You hear about a compilation of ‘new’ songs and expect it be the audio equivalent of belly button lint. This is the release that shatters that mold in a kindie way, smiling all the way through the process and introducing you to a great new artist (for the kids) or two.
