Monty The Dinosaur, a happy, must-see all ages comic book

Sometimes things get missed. Monty The Dinosaur from Action Lab Entertainment is a comic book that was on our radar, but somehow we missed its release date. Well, it came out the other week and it is utterly fabulous. Monty The Dinosaur has the soul of a comic strip in the packaging of a comic book.  It delivers laughs for younger kids and has the timeless appeal that older readers will immediately recall from their favorite newspaper comic strips.

Monty The Dinosaur is just that, a dinosaur living in modern times trying to fit in. He tries silly disguises like fake moustaches in his effort to blend into society so that he can make friends. Unfortunately for him he’s huge, sneezes and proceeds to scare people off when they realize he’s a dinosaur.

Dragon Con cosplay photos, part 2

Here’s our second general block of Dragon Con photos. You won’t see any Star Wars cosplay because there was so much that it’ll be in its own post. Yes, there was that much. These Dragon Con photos were taken during the parade, walking around the hotels, photo shoots or catching them on their downtime. The costumes from Netherworld stand out, they’re frightful and really play to the crowds.

A photo review of Dragon Con, part 1

Dragon Con happens in Atlanta every Labor Day Weekend. It is a ‘con’ in every fan based sense of the word and then some. After speaking with reporters who cover Cons like this across the country I learned that Dragon Con has the biggest and best reputation for its cosplay. Cosplay is a shortened and combined word for ‘costume’ and ‘play’. There is an example of every costume based level on display at Dragon Con, from the low tech folks who simply cut up a cardboard box to those that created movie caliber makeup, costume and performance to sell the look.

Here are some of our favorite photos that capture the spirit of Dragon Con, the families, attendees and fun to be had.  Some of these photos were taken during the Dragon Con Parade while others were taken around the hotels.

Licensed PJ Masks backpacks and lunchboxes, for school and beyond

Hey-we’re a PJ Masks Ambassador and received payment or product for this post. When is a school backpack not a school backpack? When it turns into a bag. I never liked that Bazooka Joe joke, but, to be clear, that is our reiteration of the joke that reared its head this week.  Our kids went absolutely mental when they received the PJ Masks backpack and lunchbox. Per our kids sharing rule mantra, they got to pick one thing that would be theirs.

Win a 6 month subscription to Netflix #StreamTeam, #BeatBugs

We’re on the Stream Team with Netflix and this giveaway was provided by them. Update: our kids are still digging Beat Bugs on Netflix. It’s been a couple weeks into their fascination with the show and the music is still being enjoyed. Have you or your kids seen Beat Bugs on Netflix?

Netflix, win, stream team, beat bugs, kids

It’s a Netflix original that is geared to kids 2-7 and features top notch Beatles cover songs done by some of today’s best artists. Sure the kids don’t know that its source material will be influencing their children’s music-and that is OK with them. They like it now and that’s a great place to start.

This giveaway is for a 6 month subscription to Netflix.

Children’s music, kindie and Beat Bugs of note on Netflix

We’re were compensated for this post. All thoughts are our own. Our kids have loved music since birth. As parents we’ve also been aware of the content that is in that music. Sure there will be a time when radio with its suggestive, violent or misogynistic lyrics will be a part in their lives, but that time is a couple years away. There are some cool avenues for music that are appropriate for children on Netflix. One show of note is Beat Bugs, a series that is intended for younger children and features some Beatles’ cover songs.

Kubo and the Two Strings review, poetry in stop motion

Personally, Kubo and the Two Strings is our most anticipated movie of the year. We’re big fans of stop animation, the Shimasen (that 3-stringed instrument synonymous with Japanese music) and Japan, in theory this film combines three massive elements that we love in entertainment.  If you’ve seen any of our historical twitter stream you’ll see elements of those three things all over the place. I took off my ‘me’ hat, put on the ‘reviewer’ hat and took a friend to see Kubo and the Two Strings, just to double check my thoughts on the film.

Adventure Time Comics #1, mixed up art and Land of Oooh fun

We’re big fans of Spongebob Comics. One reason we like that comic book so much is that it features different artists and their distinctive styles in each issue. It’ll have a couple of stories, each one having a different look and feel, despite having the same character backbone. Adventure Time Comics offers creators the chance to interpret Jake, Finn, Ice King and others in their own particular way and for fans of the television series or comic book the results are one that they’ll want to discover.
