All Through My Town is the go-to children’s book in the house now

I love to read.   3YO Mojo likes to read too.   In a perfect world I’d have enough time to have a site devoted exclusively to comic and children’s books.  I state that to preface the fact that our son likes books but is picky and certainly has his favorite books.  Having said that;  All Through My Town by Jean Reidy has been his go-to book ever since he picked it up. Superman and the Poisoned Planet is a book kids will dig

When I was 7 I started reading Spidey, it was a version of Spider Man that was produced by The Electric Company.  The stories were Spider Man lite, the language & art was cartoonish and the entire comic was focused on young readers.  While the art may take some of the spotlight, with comic books and heroes it all comes down the reading aspects to make a good book really click. Cypher Kids Club is a 3D interactive app that kids will really enjoy

We’ve been teaching 3YO Mojo his ABCs since he was nine months old using karuata.  Karuata is done by having whatever you’re trying to learn on cardboard flashcards, repeating them and then having your student slap the card when you say the object.  Cypher Kids Club takes karuta and blends it into a 3D app for your Apple devices to make learning fun for kids. Book review: Even Aliens Need Snacks by Matthew McElligott

Even Aliens Need Snacks is the story about a young boy who likes to cook.  He helps his mother in the kitchen and creates his own recipes until his sister makes fun of him by saying that nobody would eat his recipes.  The brother then sets out to prove his sister wrong (as any brother would do) by setting up snack stand in his front yard. You’d be crazy not to like OH, NUTS! by Tammi Sauer

As a dad, some of the best books that I can read to my children are those that I can enjoy too.  I also don’t want there to be too many words and if I can read it without putting my glasses on that’s a plus.  With those classifiers in mind, OH, NUTS! is a fabulous book.  It’s clever enough to keep adults entertained; the children will love the illustrations and learn a life lesson about being happy. Won’t Back Down is like the New Kids on the Block

Timing is everything, with that said the release of Won’t Back Down couldn’t be better.  The Chicago Teachers Union strike just ended and charter school amendments are on many local ballots this November.  A movie hasn’t received this coincidentally beneficial timing since The China Syndrome in 1979. A Dad reads How Can I Be Your Lover When I’m Too Busy Being Your Mother?

A couple thoughts crossed my mind while I was reading this book.  While the thoughts ebbed and flowed between a couple subjects the main one that kept coming back was the song from Sophie B Hawkings.    It’s not that my wife and I need help in the loving department, but we’re a normal couple with two small children.  Continue reading A Dad reads How Can I Be Your Lover When I’m Too Busy Being Your Mother?
