Shimmer & Splash: a fishy look at the sea life that children will like

We just got back from a visit to the beach.  There were six children on the trip between ages 1 to 12.  On the beach the middle to older ones had buckets of questions about sea creatures.  “Something stung me-I think it was a jellyfish”.  “Is that a fin out there? I wonder if it’s a shark or a dolphin?  If your child is between 6 to 12 and have questions about sea life Shimmer & Splash is a good jumping off point. The first trip to the Melanoma doctor was mitosis-tastic

The first trip to the Melanoma doctor was a mitosis dividing success!  We learned that EKG’s can be a good love tester, a procedural visit to this doctor means that you’ll need surgery anyway and Judas Priest Spider-Man isn’t just a magical leather clad fantasy in your 80’s metal mind.  Continue reading The first trip to the Melanoma doctor was mitosis-tastic

David Carter’s 100-a fun, rabbit hole way to learn counting

Our 3.5 year old is just learning how to count past 20.  He immediately liked David Carter’s 100 when he saw the book because of the crisp, bright illustrations.  I didn’t realize how good the book was though until our 8 year old niece came over and started to look through the book. Little Pim foreign language DVD giveaway

Recently we had the chance to review the Little Pim Spanish play DVD.  It’s teaches children words in Spanish that revolve around play and our children love it.  3YO Mojo calls it the ‘Panda movie’ and yells to see it.  The fact that it’s educational is gravy and makes me feel like superdad with my child yelling at me to learn.  Continue reading Little Pim foreign language DVD giveaway

Go Joe, ways to honor the military

This week is a busy one.  In addition to the work that must be done, I’ve got a couple of meetings and movies that I’m going to.  The movie that I’m most jazzed about seeing is definitely G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  Obviously, that’s a fictional movie that is geared towards entertaining people.  However, there are countless ways for you to help our heroes at home and abroad. Little Pim review: an entertaining way to teach language

I speak enough of a couple languages to be a good tourist.  None of them are fluent, but I could order food, understand the numbers and get basic directions.  That leaves me with the question of how do you teach your child another language when you, yourself can barely speak a second one?    Little Pim has a series of DVDs, audio CDs, books and apps that make things learning another language possible for children. Continue reading Little Pim review: an entertaining way to teach language
