Vegetables in Underwear is ridiculous, potty training fun

So, our youngest is 3 and knows that he should use the potty, but doesn’t most of the time.  He’ll use it just prior to bath time, but won’t tell us during the day if he has to go.  Vegetables in Underwear is a silly book about vegetables, in underwear and being ridiculously happy about it.  A large piece of broccoli strips down to their red underwear and runs across the pages where they meet their other vegetables wearing underwear.

Disney Go Green: A Family Guide to a Sustainable Lifestyle is more eco friendly than you think.

At first thought, a book that has Mickey Mouse on the cover teaching families about going green may seem disingenuous. Mickey and his many properties encourage consumption. However, Mickey and his friends also have a massive audience with the ability to influence untold amounts of people. Both of those statements are true and Disney: Go Green! A Family Guide to a Sustainable Lifestyle is better and more thorough than eco-skeptics would suggest.

The Tiny Traveler Egypt and France: armchair, toddler education

It’s a different world now isn’t it?  When I was a kid it seemed so large, foreign and unapproachable.  The Tiny Traveler France and The Tiny Traveler Egypt are cardboard books designed for kids two and under about colors and shapes.  When the books arrived I took out the France book to show our oldest some of the monuments in France.  I sometimes start out things with a question, so I asked him, “what’s this?” pointing to the Eifel Tower on the cover.

Sleepless Knight is a classic young reader (comic) book

Sleepless Knight is the kind of book that I would’ve devoured when I was a young reader. I grew up reading Peanuts, comic books, Calvin and Hobbes, grown up books without illustrations and then started over again. Most of the text and illustrations in Sleepless Knight can be read by some children 6 and up and certainly 7 and up.

Spring means it’s comic book season time! OK, any season is comic book season time and today there are some cool all age comic books for all the young readers (and up) to get excited about.  Groo vs. Conan trade paperback , Shinobi Ninja Princess trade paperback, Simpsons Illustrated #16 and Lumberjanes trade paperback Volume 1 all come out this week.

Also of note is Wallace and Gromit: Comic Strips Collection Volume 3.  We’re taking a look at this now and will review it tomorrow.  The humor translates to a three-panel strip very well for our favorite cheese loving dog and his aloof master.

Ultimate Spider-Man Magazine, comic and activity for kids 6-12

Ultimate Spider-Man Magazine is one of those activity books that you see in doctor waiting rooms.  It’s packed with color pictures of Spider-Man in action, has dozens of activities, one main comic story and lots of pages with trivia, spot the difference games and more.  The magazine is printed from Redan and our 5 year old loves it, but I can’t buy it for him yet.

LeapFrog Letter Factory Adventures Amazing Word Explorers review

We’re big fans of the LeapFrog series of DVDs.  It threw us for a loop when they improved their animation to more of a CGI style, but that was a much needed leap for the better in hindsight.  Their latest DVD from the Letter Factory Adventure series is Amazing Word Explorers.  It continues on the quality and throws the familiar plot formula for a bit of a twist too.
