Space Racers is equal part education and entertainment #Giveaway #SRPopup

Is Space Racers a television show that aims to educate or entertain? As parents we know that it’s trying to do both, but we can usually detect when it’s about to happen. The effective trick about Space Racers is that the education sneaks up on you. You’re enjoying the pleasant enough episode when all of a sudden someone is off to see what’s making the moon disappear. It’s just the shadow, we know that, but the way that it’s explained will keep kids entertained.

The Magic School Bus Season Three: education via the looking glass

The Magic School Bus is a show that flew under our radar when it first came out in 1994. The third season of the show is out on DVD and it’s one that our children watch consistently. Not only that, we’ve started watching with them and thoroughly enjoy it. Imagine childhood questions being answered by Lilly Tomlin, asking if you want the blue or red pill before you go on your Matrix-esque, kid friendly 26 minute journey and you have an idea about this series.

First Big Book of the Ocean is edu-reading at its best

We’re a National Geographic Kids Insider. All thoughts are our own and product was provided for review.  Our five-year old loves animals. He started out with farm animals when he was two and now he’s moved on to anything that walks, slithers, walked at one point, flies or swims. Our recent trip to the beach provided a nice opportunity for him to dig into First Big Book of the Ocean by Catherine D. Hughes. It’s published by National Geographic and has big enough words to be a challenge to middle schoolers while having great pictures and simple enough vocabulary for elementary assisted reading.

Weird & Wild Animal Facts combines great images and short information

Weird & Wild Animal Facts by Jessica Loy has a very non-descript title. It sounds like a book that you might’ve seen before and forgotten about. However, Weird & Wild Animal Facts is a very solid book that’s engaging, entertaining and educational for kids of all ages. Any age will enjoy the book because of its pictures and multi-colored pages. However, the vocabulary is aimed at grades 4 and below; and while older kids will like the book they might crave something deeper.

Dinoblock is a must own for parents of dinosaur kids

“This is a great book and I absolutely love the layout. It’s a shame I can’t think of any way to continue the series”, I said to the book publishers after reading Countablock.  Alphablock was the previous book to that and they’re all by Christopher Franceschelli, with artwork by Peskimo. After Countablock I thought that the next book would be the symbols of the Periodic Table. Thankfully they had a better idea and did one on dinosaurs and Dinoblock is educational, fun to look at, durable and something that kids will absolutely love.

Mutant Planet, Season Two is why you have a large television

We have a reasonably big television. Well, it’s 37” and fits in the space that we wanted it.  It’s big enough for most of the things that we watch, but it’s when we see things like Mutant Planet that I wish we had a bigger one. Mutant Planet, Season Two just came out on DVD and we were sent a copy, most likely to water my television envy and direct me towards purchasing a new one.

I, Fly is educational & fun about something that shouldn’t be

I, Fly, much like the book’s namesake comes up out of nowhere. This is an unassuming book that gets better, funnier and more interesting the more times that you read it. A fly comes in the window of a school room and asks the kids what they’re studying. I know that sounds like a bad joke, but in this case it’s how the book starts and it is quite funny to adults and children.  After reading the book several times to our children I think of flies in an entirely different light, although I do still valiantly try to smash them with the fly swatter.
