Win tickets to Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion-in theaters for only 1 showing

I remember seeing Star Wars with my dad in the theater.  That was back in the day and he wasn’t too jazzed about it.  Granted he was probably happy to hang out with me and that I was so happy to go.  It’s a different scene now.  On Saturday, September 27 at 10:45 there will be a one-time showing of Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion at Atlantic Station.

Dad Spends a Night in the Mancave: The Protector 2 review

Here at Daddy Mojo we get some unsolicited products that we don’t review.  We don’t review them because it would take time and if they’re not paying then it’s a waste of my time.  We’ll pass them a note, saying it’s not a good fit or have some improvements they could make to the product. With our wife out of town we settled in for a movie.  The reviews on The Protector 2 weren’t kind, but it’s Tony Jaa, it can’t be that bad.  This review of The Protector 2 is more of a warning that a review.  Consider yourself warned. Guardians of the Galaxy: non-comic action at its best

Well surprise surprise, I liked Guardians of the Galaxy.  OK, that may not be entirely unexpected.  What will be surprising to those that watch it is how much they enjoy watching it too.  Guardians of the Galaxy is a Marvel movie, but it feels like a sci-fi/action movie.  It’s easily the best movie that Marvel has done.  The film is more fun than The Avengers and is the only one from Marvel that I’ve immediately wanted to see again.

Planes: Fire and Rescue-better than the first one

Planes is the kind of direct to DVD workhorse that most studios would love to have.  In this case, as in the first Planes, it goes to theaters for a week or two and will be out on DVD in two months.  It’s not a slam to say direct to DVD.  However, it’s not at the same Frozen level of quality that families expect from the brand.  Disney will make about 200 million in theaters and push it out on DVD.  With all this in mind, Planes: Fire and Rescue is better than the first movie and has some genuine laughs in it.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes review: A+

I don’t really do grades on reviews, but in coming up with a title for the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes review it is necessary.  The movie is not what I expected and my expectations were very high, but after thinking about it Dawn of the Planet of the Apes exceeded them on every level.  In the end, the movie has as much, if not more in common with combat/war movies than the science fiction that you might expect from the title.

Win a copy of #TheLegoMovie, awesome

An instant family classic movie is how some of my friends described The Lego Movie.  It’s awesome and makes our Duplos want to grow up.  Of course our kids are only 4 and 2, they’re young builders who are already eyeing the big boy sets.  You want to win a copy of The Lego Movie, yes?  It’s simple and you can even make a short video of your own LEGO creation.

How to Train your Dragon 2 review: good and not what‘s expected

How to Train your Dragon 2 is the sequel to the 2010 hit about training dragons.  That movie was one of the ones that slipped under our radar in that we never saw it.  However now our oldest really enjoys going to the movies and can handle a bit more action.  A dragon movie is in order and while How to Train your Dragon 2 did scare him a bit; he had nothing but great things to say about it afterwards.

Homefront is the best Jason Statham movie since The Transporter

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.  Jason Statham has a movie where he plays a cop whose family is being chased by some bad guys.  He’s played this character so many times he’s running away with the title of modern day Charles Bronson.  However, his career is the boy who cried wolf of action films.  More often than not audiences have only paid attention when he’s part of an ensemble cast, like The Expendables. Jason Statham’s latest film on DVD, Homefront is nothing to cry wolf about, in fact it’s his best film since The Transporter.
