All age comic books for September 23

Happy new comic book day, if you’re DC Comics you’ll be celebrating on Tuesday, everyone else will have their new books delivered to stores on Wednesday. If you have a young to mid-elementary aged reader they’ll need to check out Fox & Rabbit: Make Believe. This is an original, hardback graphic novel by Beth Ferry with illustrations by Gergely Dudas. It’s a graphic novel that uses warmth, friendship and the imagination that a kid can relate in a book with distinct chapters, but is also loaded with pictures. Call it comfort food for the young, reluctant reader’s heart. Those six through eight-year-olds that are told that they must read, but are knee-deep in graphic novels need to look at this series.

In all age comic books, Looney Tunes #256, Sonic the Hedgehog #32, and Mega Man: Fully Charged #2 are all out this week. A trade paperback that’s worth checking out, Power Rangers Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is out this week and completely awesome. The comic books in the mini-series had their distribution thrown out of whack by the virus. Because of that, people who would’ve enjoyed this mini-series either didn’t know or couldn’t find the comic books. This is an action-based mini-series that’s great for upper elementary and older. It perfectly captures the identity of each team and puts their respective foibles in each other’s paths too.

This week in all age comic books is a little light, but still has a couple of great new comic books and graphic novels that’ll be great for upper elementary school and up. If you’ve got an elementary-aged reader of any age then Peanut, Butter & Crackers: Puppy Problems is just the sort of funny bone ammunition that will affect ages four through eight. Crackers and Butter have the house to themselves, but when a hyper puppy enters the house they know that it’s time to get serious. Readers, on the contrary, will find themselves laughing at this graphic novel for elementary-aged readers.

In all age comic books check out a new mini-series starring Spider-Man, it’s the Sins of Norman Osborn and the first issue is out this week. There are also some great Jim Henson releases, Dark Crystal Resistance and Labyrinth Coronation Volume 2 is perfect for those slightly older kids who want classic, well-crafted, fantasy. The monthly release of Sonic the Hedgehog #31 is out and this series is a must-read for grades 2 and up. It’s funny, quickly paced, and never disappoints. Teen Titans GO! To Camp! succeeds as a graphic novel for this all age team

Teen Titans GO! is easily one of the favorite television shows in our house and has been for the past two years. Our boys are eight and ten now and I suspect that this show will still be in their queue for the next three years. Moreover, the show is incredibly smart and displays a very high level of humor, all the while making fun of how dumb it can be in certain moments. For us, the show rivals The Simpsons in its intelligence and laughs per minute. Similar to that show, it had a comic book element that was equally as fabulous. Unlike Homer’s vehicle, Robin and his crew continue to have new adventures, and the first one of these, Teen Titans GO! To Camp! is out and is everything that fans of the show enjoy and want.

This week in all age comic books is loaded with great graphic novels and a couple of comic books that will really hit home with the middle elementary crowd. First up in all age graphic novels is Dog Man, Grime and Punishment. If you have a kid who is eight or up it’s highly probable that this is already on your radar. If not, this is the final Dog Man graphic novel, so your kids will get caught up on the library’s copies or the bulk set that’ll be on sale just in time for the holidays. Cat Kid Comic Club is coming out in December to carry the torch for fans of this humor.

Middle-grade graphic novel fans can check out Roald Dahl-The Witches graphic novel or The Comic Book Story of Basketball. Those older fans can read Kent State-Four Dead in Ohio or Awkward Pause. Each of those will be dramatically different, but high in quality.

However, between Owly-Just a Little Blue, Pheobe and Her Unicorn-Virtual Unicorn Experience, Squidding Around-Fish Feud and more it’s a week that has many opportunities for those elementary ages to really enjoy some quality books. For the entire list just go on past this image.

This week in all age comic books is for those who have been screaming for graphic novels. There are seven new all age graphic novels that are great for elementary aged readers. There are slightly fewer graphic novels that are out for middle school readers. But the fact that there are great options this week for pre-k geeklings is awesome and something to be celebrated.

Spider-Man fans of all ages and versions should yell out also. The Amazing Spider-Man Threats and Menaces volume 8 is out and collects issues 37-42 of this great monthly series for middle school readers. Mile Morales: Spider-Man #18 is out for that same age and if your reader is even younger then Miles Morales Spider-Man Little Golden Book hits stores also.

New comic book day is every Wednesday unless you’re looking for something from DC Comics. In that case, they arrive in stores every Tuesday. This week from DC Comics has DC Superhero Girls: Midterms and DC Justice League Christmas Heroes. The former is great for middle school readers and the later is perfect for pre-k through lower elementary emerging readers. All age comic books for August 26

It’s new comic book day this Wednesday and there are a couple really bright spots in all age comic books. The publishing world is still adapting to the schedule that’s been shifting since March. Because of that, one of the funniest and most creative humor books we’ve seen in years is coming to comic book (and other) stores this week. We thought it was released back in the spring, but Attack of the Stuff is finally coming to stores. It’s from author/illustrator Jim Benton and is absolutely hilarious. It’s weird, might take a moment to get some of the jokes, but is one of the best graphic novels that you’ll pick up this year.

In all age comic books UnderDog will be just the sort of all age escapism for elementary aged readers. Those upper elementary (and up) kids will love Marvel Action Captain Marvel TPB Vol. 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man #47. If they’re a little more cerebral and want something more indie, check out Usagi Yojimbo #12. This series is all action, being made into a Netflix series and has a samurai rabbit. It’s also one of the best all age comic books that you’ll see on a regular basis.

All age comic books for August 19

It’s new comic book day again and this week is settling into a nice groove. There’s a great variety of all age comic books and new graphic novels that will entertain readers in upper elementary school. First up, we missed highlighting Peanuts The Gang’s All Here when it was released a couple weeks ago. The virus and its effects on publishing are still reverberating. Because of that some releases were delayed, while others are sliding under the radar. These Peanuts books from Andrews McMeel are awesome. They’re new strips that seamlessly inhabit the soul and spirit of the classic characters. If your kids love Peanuts and are tired of looking through your collection, then check out The Gang’s All Here so that they can have new stories of their own.

In all age comic books there are two of the go-to releases for any reader who is six or older and in elementary school. Sonic The Hedgehog #30 is on IDW Publishing and is full of action and humor that these ages want. This comic is always a hit with elementary school libraries and will probably take off more with individual readers now that the movie was such a hit. Scooby Doo Where Are You #105 is from DC Comics and is consistently awesome. The movie, on the other hand, was forced and had grander visions of a shared Hanna-Barbera Universe. Its focus on that angle let to a jokeless affair that made audiences yearn for a box of Scooby snacks.

Other notable all age comic books or graphic novels this week include a couple cool Transformers comic books for middle school, a Haunted Mansion graphic novel for upper elementary and up plus, Spider-Woman and a vintage Spider-Man re-release. The entire list is just below the graphic.

All age comic books for August 12

This week in all age comic books has lots of great graphic novels that will appeal to a wide variety of readers. If you have a (mainly) girl reader who likes humor then The Magical Adventures Pheobe and Her Unicorn is a must-read series. That graphic novel comes out this week and is hilarious. It’ll mainly skew towards girl readers, but those boys that pick it up will laugh just as much as the girls. To that end, the boys have a new graphic novel from Ben 10: The Creature From Serenity Shore that is loaded with the same elementary-aged monster fun that the show has.

In comic books, check out My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #89, The Amazing Spider-Man #46 and a couple others. We did pick up Transformers My Little Pony: Friendship in Disguise last week and absolutely loved it! It’s funny, loaded with ‘in’ jokes for Transformers and MLP fans and appropriate for ages 8 and up. Those younger fans might need some help reading it though.
