Free Comic Book Day is the first Saturday in May of every year. Star Wars Day is celebrated every year on May 4. This year May 4, AKA, Star Wars Day falls on the first Saturday in May, which is Free Comic Book Day. It’s two of my favorite ideas ‘Free’ and ‘Star Wars’, both on the same day. Thunderbolts #8, continues to disappoint despite great characters
Thunderbolts should be a comic that I can’t wait to receive in the mail. The first issue started out strong. A rag tag group of anti-heroes, Red Hulk, The Punisher, Elecktra, Deadpool and Venom team up to solve problems that other entities or superheroes can’t. Unfortunately since the 4th issue of Thunderbolts it’s dragged and the art has gotten too big and clunky. Continue reading Thunderbolts #8, continues to disappoint despite great characters
Dad reads Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith: Spiral
It took me a while to warm up to the Star Wars comics, but I’m enjoying them now. Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith-Spiral takes places when The Old Republic is peacefully governing the galaxy. The only trouble that can be found are the battles between the Jedi of old and the Sith. Continue reading Dad reads Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith: Spiral
Watching Oblivion is not the end of the world-you’ll really like it.
End of the world and time travel movies are fascinating because, unless they’re really horrible, they look OK from one angle or the other. There is also the steampunk element that make them visually fun, when done right. Oblivion is an end the world movie that’s been compared to a live action version of WALLE. Continue reading Watching Oblivion is not the end of the world-you’ll really like it.
G.I. Joe: Cobra-Oktober Guard is enjoyable noir Spy
This month is turning into all Joe all the time. What with the movie (a sequel has already been green lit!) and me reading G.I. Joe: Cobra-Oktober Guard I’m all but casting my left hand into a kung fu grip. Oktober Guard is a different kind of Joe graphic novel, which is a great thing, especially after my last experience. Marvel is giving away 700 free digital comics
Alternate headline: Dad blogger calls in sick for a couple of days. Marvel Comics is giving away 700 digital copies of a wide variety of their comics. That’s a lot of digital comics. Some of them are from the new MARVEL NOW! Reboots, while some of the comics are first issues or classic stories from the 90’s or 00’s. Continue reading Marvel is giving away 700 free digital comics
The Danger Girl/G.I. Joe crossover is simple, OK comic middle ground
Back in the day I used to read Danger Girl, when it came out. It was one of those comics that issued an issue every month or so, semi interesting bad guys and half naked women on every page. Don’t get me wrong, I do love beautiful women, but there is just something about Danger Girl that reminds me of those lyrics from Barenaked Ladies. Continue reading The Danger Girl/G.I. Joe crossover is simple, OK comic middle ground
Red She-Hulk 62 is good, consistent, story oriented Hulk
I’ve been reading Hulk for a couple of years now. At first he was the regular green Hulk, then Thunderbolt Ross (Red Hulk) and now Red She-Hulk. The good part, from a story telling perspective is that all of them have taken place in the same book. There was no forced reboot or taking the issues back to #1, they just changed the name of the book to Red She-Hulk. Continue reading Red She-Hulk 62 is good, consistent, story oriented Hulk
