Terrible Lizard #3, Wrex in effect, in the city-with friends

Terrible Lizard is a 4 issue mini-series from Oni Press about a teenage girl Jessica Anders and her adopted T.  Rex.  Because of an accident in the laboratory, Jessica and Wrex have a bond that makes them understand each other very well.  When #2 ended we saw the military closing in on Wrex just after his battle with a giant ape.  This is an all ages comic that doesn’t skimp on the action and succeeds on another level too.

Star Wars Marvel Yrs Omnibus HC Vol. 01  This is the old school, from 1977 Star Wars comic book that Marvel published.  If we let our children read our old copies from back in the day, then it would be all age comic fun.

Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #8, goofy redemption for the meddling kids

Scooby-Doo! Team Up is exactly what I was expecting from a Scooy-Doo comic book.  This is one story, completely stilly, great for all ages and also introduces (?) a new generation to The Jetsons.  By the title, Scooby-Doo Team-Up you know that they meet other superheroes or animated characters.  In this issue they meet the futuristic family, introduce them to ghosts and figure out a way home.

New all age comic books for Wednesday January 7, 2014

It’s the first Wednesday of 2015 and the new comics are back in regular supply.  There are a couple all age comic books that we’re really looking forward too including Face Value, Scooby Doo Team Up and Shinobi Ninja Princess.   Face Value is a comic whose lead hero is Autistic.  The first issue sold out and I’ll look for the third one to support the publisher and review the comic.  It was written by Dave Kot, a psychologist and comic book guy to raise awareness and show an autistic youth be a hero like anyone can be. Scooby Doo Team Up because I want to see if it’s better than the other Scooby Doo title and Shinobi Ninja Princess because I’ve heard that it’s gotten much better than the first issue.

Face Value 3

The links take you to Things From Another World and give you a 10-20% discount on the comics.  They are affiliate links, but they’re money saving affiliate links, which are cool-and rare.  If you want to find your local comic book store and buy them on Wednesday, just dig the link.

Valentine For Charlie Brown

Actually, the Charlie Brown book is a real book, hardcover that is.  However, with Valentine’s Day just around the corner this squeezes in under a technicality.

Penguins of Madagascar 2 will satisfy fans of the series

Madagascar is a cash cow.  In addition to producing a spin off for King Julian on Netflix the Penguins have their own movie and a 4 issue comic book mini-series.  The Penguins of Madagascar are from Titan comics and issue 2 picks up with Private, Kowalski, Skipper and Rico in Rome.  They’re investigating the competition for Afro Circus, a one man show called The Magical Magnifico.

Fraggle Rock, Journey to the Everspring 3 continues classic Fraggle fun

What’s a Fraggle?  What’s a Muppet?  Isn’t a Muppet merely a Fraggle that lives underground and sings more often?  No, not really.  People have been clamoring for a Blu-ray release of the television series for a while to no avail.  To them I would submit that there are still lots of Fraggle charm and proof of that is in the four issue mini-series Journey to the Everspring.

Super Dinosaur 23 rips apart expectations for an all age comic

One of the best reviewed all age comic books in recent memory is Super Dinosaur.  It’s the story of Derek Dynamo, a ten-year old boy and his best friend a nine-foot tall Tyrannosaurus Rex. They play video games, fight other monsters, various baddies and have fun.   It’s a great comic for any age, but they dropped off the map with issue 22 in February, 2014.  Super Dinosaur 23 is here, it’s great, but don’t get too comfortable with the characters.

New all age comic books for Wednesday, December 31, 2014

It’s the final new comic book day of the year and it looks like publishers really took that to heart.  There are less than a dozen new comics hitting stores and only one of them is an all age comic book.   It’s a great week to play catch up, look for some releases from BOOM, Bongo, Archaia, or Oni that you might have missed.  Oh, it’s not that I don’t love some Marvel or DC, but when it comes to all age comic books they just don’t have the number or quality releases as the independent publishers.   Soap box aside, on with the comic (s)!

Abigail and the Snowman

Abigail and the Snowman #1

Star Trek Planet of the Apes #1

OK, this is not really an all age comic book, but because the week is thin on new releases it merits a mention.  I love Star Trek.  I love Planet of the Apes.  I’ve wanted to get a look at this comic ever since I heard about it.
