All age comic books for August 22

It’s new comic book day (#NCBD on social media) and what new all age comic books are you reading? If you want to share them on social just tag them with #DaddyMojo too so we can casually look over your shoulder. Over in the podcast we’ll take a deeper look at Peanuts, The Beatles Yellow Submarine, a new graphic novel by Science Comics, two Star Wars books and more. For now though here are three great comic books that will interest readers as young as 5 years old.

Lumberjanes #53

Lumberjanes is one of the go-to all age comic books each month. It’s about a group of girls (The Lumberjanes) as they have fun at summer camp. Mix in some age appropriate monsters, science-fiction, adventure, friendship and more and every issue of this comic book is fabulous. It might appeal to girls more than boys, but that’s simply due to the main characters. As a quality vehicle, this is one of the best comic books for any audience, regardless of who is reading it or how old they are.

Pink Panther Presents the Ant and the Aardvark #1

Our 8 year old loves this series of comic books from American Mythology Productions. It started with The Pink Panther, but their ancillary friends and cartoon mates from back in the day have been getting in on the new audiences too. Ant and the Aardvark is a one-shot issue that will make kids as young at 5 laugh and remind parents about a very funny cartoon. Its humor is not 100% dry, but it’s dryish in the way that Mr. Bean is, except in an ant and aardvark way.

Marvel Super Hero Adventures Inferno, #1

This is all age super hero and its best. Marvel Super Hero Adventures doesn’t dumb down the super heroes. Nor does it give them the Muppet Baby treatment, instead it simply tells action based tales that kids as young at 5 can look at. In this issue Inferno is visiting Spider-Man and Venom is around the corner ready to mess things up in the city. Of course those younger ages won’t be able to read it themselves, but they’ll certainly love the artwork. Ages 7 and up should be able to read the comic book without any assistance from older folks.

Disney Princess Comics Collection

Disney Princess Comics Collection Volume 4 has stories from Cinderalla, Tiana, Rapunzel, Belle, Pocahontas and more. These are comic stories originally published in the monthly comic book Disney Princess. Think of this trade paperback as a Disney Princess greatest hits from the most recent couple of issues. Girls 6 and up will love this series. They might need help reading it, but you’ll have just as much fun reading it as they will hearing it.

Archie Meets Batman 66, #2

Robin and Batgirl must go undercover at Riverdale in 1966. Batman will most certainly make an appearance with lots of BAM!, POW! and ZOW! to entertain kids of all ages. Batman 66 is a great series of comic books and this mini-series makes total sense. Archie has teamed up with all manner of characters from The Punisher to The Ramones. Having the Riverdale gang team up with Batman in one of his most famous incarnations is like welcoming an old friend to dinner. Kids 6 and up will be OK with the content, but those younger kids might not know enough about either property to enjoy it. Ages 8 and up will know both properties and be able to enjoy the series.

Sonic The Hedgehog, #8

Go into any elementary school library and you’ll see some Sonic The Hedgehog comic books. You’ll see them there for a good reason. This is one of the go-to all age comic books for boys or girls. It’s jammed with action, has humor, characters that kids know and love-plus a history where some parents will enjoy reading it too. Check out any issue of Sonic The Hedgehog from IDW Publishing and you’ll see why it makes a great gift to any school library.

All age comic books for August 1

This week in new all age comic books is dominated by one set of characters we regularly see and one publisher with a very specific niche. The other things that apparent more so than other weeks is just how overly kid-friendly all of the comic books and graphic novels are this week. In any direction you look there’s an all age comic book for readers as young as 6. Over in the podcast we’ll chat about the Disney comic books, the new Capstone superhero releases, Teen Titans Go! To The Movies, Steven Universe and more. For now though let’s look at three new releases that’ll engage readers in elementary school and up.

Justice League, You Choose, The Portal of Doom

Black Manta has unleashed lots of monsters all over the place and the Justice League has to stop them. Justice League You Choose, The Portal of Doom offers young readers the chance to re-tell the tale in a number of different ways. Most members of the Justice League get a shot to shine in this book that caters to grades 1 through 4 will enjoy. There are 12 possible endings, all of which offer young readers the chance to root for the good guys.

Gravity Falls, Lost Legends

Like Plants Vs. Zombies, this graphic novel from Gravity Falls is mandatory reading for elementary aged kids. They loved the show on Disney and the comic books or stand-alone books were very entertaining when they came out. Lost Legends is an original graphic novel with four new stories as they are told by Shmebulock. We’re now crossing our fingers for more Phineas & Ferb comic books or graphic novels and asking nicely to the Disney folks in bookland.

Delilah Dirk and the Pillars of Hercules

Delilah Dirk and the Pillars of Hercules is the third book in this action series by Tony Cliff. It’s realistically drawn and colored, plus it has action out the wazoo in an Indiana Jones style. Because of that, this graphic novel is going to be suited to middle to upper-middle school readers and up. Younger readers probably won’t want to read it due to its realistic approach. Older readers, even those not in school, will enjoy the intelligent story, action and characters in this great example of a graphic novel that entertains on many levels.

Gravity falls, lost legends, gravity falls lost legends,  justice league, justice league you choose, the portal of doom, Delilah dirk, Delilah dirk and the pillars of Hercules, tony cliff, all ages comic, all age comic books, comic books,

This week in new all age comic books has lots of Disney books, Delilah Dirk for middle schoolers, Hotel Transylvania and much more.

There are lots of great all age comic books out this week. There is something for everyone from ages 5 and up. True story: we were in the comic book store this week and I overheard a dad looking for something for his 5 YO girl. The comic book store employee helped him out, but their suggestions were aimed at too high of an age. Over in the podcast we’ll chat briefly about how a parent of young children can navigate the comic book store successfully. For now let’s look at three comic books that will entertain even the pickiest of young readers who are 5 and up.

Disney Princess #21

That dad in the comic book store needs to check this out. Disney Princess is a monthly comic book from Joe Books that hammers the young girl demographic with humor, princess stories, heroism and girls who they already know. That young of an age won’t be able to read them, but that’s why mom and dad read to kids at night, isn’t it?

Futurama Comics Annual #1

From Bongo Comics this is the first annual from Futurama Comics. That comic book is no longer being printed physically, but does have new content distributed via the Futurama app. It’s because of that fact that this issue is one of our picks of the week. This series is funny to ages 8 and up and will especially poke the funny bone of Simpsons fans who yearn for some Planet Express.

Rise of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the new version of the animated TMNT that was previously on Nickelodeon. Rise will still be on Nick and the new comic book will be out on IDW Publishing. These are the turtles that are in line with the ‘animated TMNT’, they’re more kid friendly-without skimping on the action, but not as old as the ongoing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book. Issue 0 is out this week and is great for ages 6 and up.

The Call of Cthulhu is graphic novel fun and Lovecraft 101

I don’t know much about The Call of Cthulhu, but I was a big fan of The Call of Ktulu by Metallica when Ride the Lightning came out. The uninitiated like me on The Call of Cthulhu can get up to speed on the classic book by H. P. Lovecraft in its graphic novel edition. It’s presented as part of the Dark Tales imprint on Canterbury Classics Books. The art in it is done by Dave Shepherd and its result might just depend on how much you know about the story. It’s new comic book day, don’t act surprised because this happens every Wednesday. That’s the day the all of the new comic books are released to your local stores. In that shipment are dozens of all age comic books that are great for readers as young as five-years old! Granted that age varies from week to week; but this is one of those weeks that has some great ones for those younger readers, plus a nice selection of older action comics for kids in upper elementary.  Over in the podcast we’ll chat about two great Disney themed releases, Mech Cadet Yu and more. If you’re looking for three go-to all age comic books that will be OK for kids 5 and up , read on.

Casper and hot stuff, ducktales, American mythology productions, Harvey comics, idw publishing, marvel comics, all age comic books, comic books, true believers, marvel comics true believers, all age comics

True Believers

Marvel Comics True Believers are reprints of classic issues in the Marvel Comic cannon. This week it’s all about Fantastic Four with three issues from the 1960’s and one issue from the 1970’s. These comics are OK for readers aged 7 and up, but realistically younger kids might not be attracted to the artwork.  Ages 9 and up will enjoy these the most and anyone who purchases them will love the price of only $1.

Ducktales #10

We mentioned in the podcast before that Ducktales is back baby! They’ve got all new tales in comic books on IDW Publishing. This is an important note because many of the Disney stories that IDW puts out were previously published in another language. Ignore the fact that if it’s the first time that you’re reading it then it’s new to you anyway. These are all new stories featuring Donald’s nephews as they look for treasure, explore things, frustrate Donald and otherwise have a great time-which your Disney fan who is aged 8 and up will too.

The content in Ducktales is great for an all age comic book. The reason I’m suggesting it’s for ages 8 and up is due to the reading that required to enjoy it.

Casper and Hot Stuff #1

Similar to how IDW and some of their Disney titles publish previous stories that were in another language. American Mythology Productions has brought many of the Harvey Comics characters back so that new audiences can discover them. As a kid I still remember my neighbor who only collected Harvey Comics. We took a trip to the beach one summer and the two of us just read and traded all manner of Wendy, friends and more. My favorite title that I remember was Casper and Hot Stuff. I liked the earnestness of Casper, but I also liked the kid friendly maliciousness of Hot Stuff.

They’re back in an all story, Casper and Hot Stuff #1. This is one of those all age comic books that kids 5 and up can jump into and easily enjoy. Even their slightly surly older sibling who is 9 will enjoy this comic book.

All age comic books for July 4

And a Happy July 4th to you if you’re in the U.S.; plus a belated Canada Day to our friends up there. We also wish the cat meme of your choice if you’re reading this from elsewhere, now on with the new all age comic books for the week of July 4. Is your local comic book store open on July 4th? I don’t know, but check out Comic Book Store Locator, type in your zip code and you can contact them to check into that.

Over in the podcast we’ll chat about Hilda and the Stone Forest, a slew of Disney and DC books and a classic series of books that never go out of style with a new one this week. All of these are some of the top all age comic books for the week of July 4. In addition to that, check out these three, some of which are great for ages 5 and up.

The all age comic books this week include True Believers, DC Super Hero Girls, lots of Disney, Hilda and the Stone Forest in paperback and more.

Disney PIXAR Incredibles 2 one-shot

Have you seen Incredibles 2 yet? It’s a very good movie and proves that sequels to great PIXAR films can stand alone, even years after the first one, as worthy films that are entertaining and don’t feel like a rip off. Disney PIXAR and Joe Books take that good mojo off of the screen and into a one-shot comic book that is great for all ages. This concentrates on the family aspect of the Incredibles, expect lots of Jack-Jack, family humor and superhero action. It’ll be great for ages 5 and up, but those younger ages will need help reading the content.

True Believers Fantastic Four Coming of Galactus

True Believers is a series of comics that Marvel Comics puts out that reprints classic issues from their catalogue. Some of these issues are classics, like from the 60’s, while others are new classics like ones from the 90’s. The Coming of Galactus is an issue from the early 60’s that features Galactus and the FF. The kicker is that it’s only $1 and the content is great for any age as long as they like action. There is some reading, so younger ages won’t be able to read it without help, but they’ll love looking at the classic art.

Ghoul Scouts, I Was a Teenage Werewolf!

From the title Ghoul Scouts to the setting of this mini-series, Camp Lake Crystal, older readers know that their tongue should be fully in cheek. However, younger readers will be fully enthralled in this just-scary-enough mini-series from Action Lab Entertainment. Ghoul Scouts features five teens as they fight zombies and monsters, all the while navigating the difficult task of being a teenager and being in their home town. This is fun stuff that ages 8 and up will enjoy and parents can rest easy knowing that the content is OK too.

Ghoul scouts, I was a teenage werewolf, action lab entertainment, true believers, the coming of Galactus, marvel comics, Disney, Disney PIXAR, Incredibles 2, all age comic books

The all age comic books this week include True Believers, DC Super Hero Girls, lots of Disney, Hilda and the Stone Forest in paperback and more.

It’s new comic book day and this week is light on all age comic books. There are a couple great books and some cool graphic novels that are brand new. In the podcast we’ll talk about a great new graphic novel for elementary school and up from Scholastic, a Marvel book that skews even younger, Catsronauts and much more. For now though let’s look at three all age comic books that will interest ages 5 and up.

Future Quest Presents #11

Future Quest Presents is a great ongoing series from DC Comics that is made of a continuous mini-series of sorts. The common thread is Hanna-Barbera and their stock characters. Some of them aren’t household names, but that doesn’t matter as the stories are jammed with action and fun. In Future Quest Presents #11 we catch up with Dorno of the Herculoids. It’s OK if you don’t know him, by the time you get a couple pages in you’ll want more of the vibe that this comic book has throughout. This is great for ages 9 and up, just because of the amount of reading that’s required to really enjoys it.

Lumberjanes #51

Should Lumberjanes be in the humor or science-fiction category? That question’s answer varies due to what issue we’re discussing. They can range from flat out summer camp funny to science-fiction tomfoolery as they chase monsters in the forest. This monthly comic book series is one of the go-to all age comic books that people can read. Each issue is fabulous, with a side order of friendship.

Sonic the Hedgehog #6

Catch the train, the Sonic the Hedgehog train that Dr. Eggman is desperately trying to hijack. This comic book is great and produces sold out issues, which then require second or even third printings. The magic of Tracy Yardley is in full effect here and is one of those all age comic books with action, humor and a built in audience that kids 5 and up will enjoy.
