Transformers Robots In Disguise Super Bumblebee is BIG toy play

We have a young Transformers Robots In Disguise fan in our house. The television show is great for kids, surprisingly good for adults and a great entry point into characters that they love to play with.  We have a couple Bumblebee toys. However we have nothing close to the scale of the new Transformers Robots In Disguise Super Bumblebee.

This toy stands at a massive 19.5” tall. It’s the tallest and biggest toy that you’ll see near the rest of the Transformers toys.  A toy that is this big that is built after an all ages cartoon means that it is geared to younger kids and it is.

We’ve got a couple of the normal sized three-step changer Transformer toys. They are fun. The Super Bumblebee is like them and transforms in three-steps, just on a much bigger scale.

Transforming the Super Bumblebee is simple. To take him from Transformer to car just move his faceplate down, push his arms in and put all four wheels on the ground. When he’s in Transformer mode you can move his arms out or back and forth, his eyes light up and the top of his head lights up when the button on his chest is pushed.

Bumblebee also wakes up when you transform him from car to robot and says “Let’s catch some Decepticons”! His fists close so you can put a piece of string through his hands and have him repel down areas. We always did that with our toys as a kid and appreciate the nod to old school players who used to do that and are allowing kids to do that today.

He’ll say other catch phrases when you press his button, as you child will do in the store or even more if you have this in your house. The recommended age for the toy says 6 and up. It is very simple to transform, our five-year old can do it with ease and enjoys playing with it lots. Four is too young because of the coordination and strength needed to pull Bumblebee’s arms away from or towards his torso when he’s transforming.

It’s a great, well constructed toy, but I wish that he rolled easier. When he’s in car mode he moves on the ground while being pushed, but loses forward momentum after a couple of feet. It would be great to have such a big, durable Transformer that is also a viable vehicle that could roll down the slide or driveway.  Similar to our toys repelling down a string, they also rolled down the slide.

My deep, inner toy desires aside your five through eight year old Transformers Robots In Disguise fan will really enjoy this toy. It’s big, intimidating and for a toy of its size, does have a decent price point. Also, because it’s so simple, with so few moving parts, it is durable and very difficult to break. It’s made with thick plastic and runs on 1 AA battery for the voice and light effects.
