What the kids are watching on Netflix #StreamTeam

We’re part of the StreamTeam with Netflix and were compensated for this post. This month on Netflix the kids discovered some really excellent shows that were brand new to them.  We also re-discovered some great movies from back in the day, a couple more recent releases and one that the wife really loves.

Stella and Sam is one of the sweetest shows that we’ve seen in ages.  It’s the story of Stella and Sam who go outside and have grand adventures using just their imaginations.  This is feel-good all ages television that will allow kids to see exactly where their minds can take them when they allow it.

Eliot Kid’s introduction is artsy and creepy.  “Should I let the children see this?”.., I thought.  After watching just a couple of minutes the answer is a big fat yes.  Eliot uses his imagination and friends to discover wild, new things, visit places and more.  It’s a fun show with a great soundtrack that has throwback fun for parents to enjoy too.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is one that’s been around for a while, but our 5 year old is just getting into the Force.  He’s been watching Star Wars: Rebels and loves it, so his attraction to The Clone Wars was natural.  These are great shows that prove that Star Wars, once you take out all the adults that love it, is really meant for children.

All five seasons of Pee-Wee’s Playhouse are available to watch on Netflix.  If you haven’t seen it, this show is as much fun for adults as it is for children.  It’s a manic joyride of animation, slapstick humor, silly characters and a who’s who of celebrities parading through in various costumes.

Regular Show is really funny.  It’s one of the highest rated shows for boys 6-11 on Cartoon Network for good reason.  Its manic humor is great for adults and good for some children.  There’s nothing adult about it, but some of the shows may be too weird for kids to understand.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi is part travelogue and part foodie paradise.  It’s the story of famed sushi chef Jiro Ono and his $300 a plate dinners at his place in Tokyo.  Come for the food, stay for the culture, you’ll love this film.

The best line that we quote from Romancing the Stone is “THE Joan Wilder”?  Romancing the Stone has aged well, it’s one of my wife’s favorite movies and I really enjoyed it too when we saw it the other week.

Day of the Dead is my favorite George Romero movie.  It’s dark, has fabulous make up and special effects and has very good human characters…..for a zombie movie.  It is bloody, graphic and tense, not for the kids, but parents who dig the undead will like this classic from 1985.

Dead Snow: Red Vs. Dead is the sequel to 2009’s Dead Snow about Nazi zombies rising from the ground in Norway.  Red Vs. Dead is much better than the original.  More of this film is shot in the daylight and there are dozens more zombies.  The humor is black, the violence is graphic, the characters have no remorse, but it’s a fun film, if you like your zombie/horror a little silly with moments that you can’t watch and others where you can’t turn away.
