Regular Show Mordecai Pack on DVD, out now and very funny

Cartoon Network has so many shows that hit ages 6 and up.  The leading edge and most popular show is Adventure Time.  Our favorite show in their lineup is Regular Show.  It’s as manic, strange and creative, but is grounded in reality just a little bit.  Really, it’s the story of Mordecai a blue jay, Rigby a raccoon who take care of the park with their friends who are even stranger, so take ‘grounded in reality’ with a grain of salt.  It happens on Earth, but each episode balances friendship, alternate realities, work and more in a creative mash-up that makes you laugh, even if you’re (much) older than their intended demographic.

Regular Show is rated PG for some situations or attitude that you certainly don’t want children to do.  However, if you have a child that is 8 or up they know this show and love it.  The Mordecai Pack has 16 episodes that are 13 minutes each.

Each episode has a similar theme in that it starts out with something simple like Mordecai and Rigby playing video games.  Then they make a bet that the loser has to get their hair cut like their favorite character in a TV show.  Rigby cheats; Mordecai loses and gets a blond dye cut.  He then meets a group of other blonde guys who have fun and lead a cooler life than he previously had.

Unfortunately the group of blond guys are part of a cult, ultimately leading to Rigby being kidnapped by Mordecai to have his hair dyed.  Rigby fesses up to cheating, a fact that Mordecai knew all along, but now the blondes have turned murderous and are trying to kill the two of them.

Each episode is packed with fast turns like that to make every 12 minute story fun, funny and provide laugh out loud moments for ages 8 and up.  There are lots of cultural jokes that younger audiences won’t get, but that’s half the fun of shows that a majority of the family can watch, isn’t it?  Being able to genuinely watch your parents laugh at the same time the kids are laughing is rare.

Regular Show: Mordecai Pack isn’t for every viewer because it is very weird.  Get past the weirdness of the images and you’ll find a very funny show that’ll keep you coming back.  Currently in its sixth season this Emmy award winning show is one that your children will be watching one way or another for a long time.
