MythBusters 10th Anniversary Collection giveaway & review

Has it really been 10 years of MythBusters?  Since they’ve released their 10^th Anniversary collection, I guess so.  We watched a couple episodes from the collection and were pleasantly surprised at how well the series has aged.

First off, the giveaway for the Mythbusters 10^th Anniversary Collection is massive.  It’s 10 DVDs deep that includes 50 episodes that were hand picked by the MythBusters cast.  Adam Savage, Jamie Hynman, Grant Imahara, Kari Byron and Tory Belleci each have  two videos packed with5 episodes that they picked as their favorite.  If you were to watch it from start to finish it would take you over 2100 minutes, so this is over two days worth of myth busting that you can do from your sofa.

The series has aged very well.  One episode of note that we saw from the discs was over five years old and highlighted YouTube myths.  Even those seemingly older myths that happened online play out nicely as presented by any one of the hosts of the show.

The collection is 10 DVDs and that’s a big package.  However, it would’ve been great to have one or two discs of out takes, behind the scenes or something else that showed you the hosts interacting with people.  MythBusters is one of those shows that you really care about and like the presenters.  You want to see them interact with each other, see them at fan conferences or watch them mess up takes while doing the show.

Even without that aspect, this collection is fun to watch.  If you look around online you can find it for just south of $70, but its suggested retail value is $99.99.  MythBusters is rated TV-14.  There isn’t any cursing or adult situations, but they do blow up lots of stuff.  I suspect watching this with a 7 year old would mean ‘these people are professionals’ every 5 minutes.
