5 Secrets to a Good Night’s Rest

How are you doing? Have you been staying active and healthy? If you have healthy habits and are eating clean, chances are you have a lot of energy—but what if you don’t?

If you’ve been doing everything right, there could be something you’re overlooking for the energy you need. Your sleep can make a big difference in how you feel throughout the day, so ask yourself if you’re getting enough of it regularly. If not, consider these tips below:

1. Freshen up your bed

Do you have a comfortable bed that allows you to get to sleep at night as soon as you lay your head down? Do your sheets feel inviting and is your comforter just perfect for the amount of warmth you need? How about your mattress? Your bed should be a place that is as comfortable as you want it to be.

From a memory foam pillow to a mattress that is perfectly designed for the kind of sleeper you are, everything on your bed should maximize your comfort, because when you’re comfortable at night, you sleep better.

2. Incorporate a bedtime routine

Life can be stressful; there’s no way around it happening at some point in our lives. However, when it comes time to sleep, it’s important to leave the stress outside of your bedroom. The only thing you should have in there is a bedtime routine that prepares your mind for relaxation.

Whether you’re someone who practices meditation, or you enjoy listening to classical music before bed, take time to unwind with a bedtime routine that will help you get in a calm mental space, which will allow your body to get to sleep easier.

3. Avoid caffeine or exercise before bed.

Caffeine is all well and good in the morning when you wake up, but if you want to have a good night’s rest, it’s important to skip afternoon coffee. While you may be able to get to sleep at night, it may be restless sleep, so it’s best to avoid caffeine after 1:00 p.m. at all costs.

In your busy life, evening workouts may be the easiest way for you to get exercise but exercising too late at night can make it hard for you to drift off at your bedtime. Plan your workouts for the morning; it’s a great way to start your day.

4. Make your room a peaceful place to be

If there’s too much going on in your room or it’s cluttered, it can be distracting and not feel like a relaxing environment to be in. This includes everything from the curtains you use, as if you’re light-sensitive at night, even the smallest bit of light can make it very difficult for you to get to sleep.

If noise is a factor where you live, consider a fan or white noise machine or sleep buds to block out any street sounds or dogs barking in the neighborhood. Additionally, consider using a scent of some kind that relaxes you, so that it’s easier to get in the relaxation mood when you enter the room.

5. Set up a sleep schedule

You’re an adult, why do you need a bedtime? Your parents were onto something when they had bedtime scheduled every night. Having a sleep routine can help you to have a regulated sleep cycle that makes it easy to fall asleep and wake up at the same time, meaning you get the hours of sleep you need. If you do love your weekend sleep-ins, keep the extra sleep to a minimum of an hour so you don’t disrupt your body’s sleep schedule.

In Conclusion

Sleep matters more than many people realize and if you want to improve your quality of life, improve your sleep quality. From the way you sleep to what you sleep on, there are changes you can make to ensure a good night of rest.
