This week at Camp Warner Bros. has a movie from one of the best-and smartest shows on television. Teen Titans GO! is much more than just a kid’s cartoon. It’s incredibly smart, well written and is self-aware enough to break animation boundaries that rival it against The Simpsons or Family Guy. There’s also a go-to craft that’s simple enough for kids to be able to do that allows them to channel their favorite Teen Titan and save money.
The craft is something that you can bank on, literally. You’re making a bank where kids can save their coins that has a choice of Teen Titans GO! characters or logos on it. Kids might need a little help gluing the cut outs to the jar and parents might wince at actually printing something in color. Once you get past those two hurdles the craft is entirely kid driven. That, plus it allows kids the chance to see their coins add up. Our eight year-old has a handful of different coin banks, but he doesn’t use any of them. There’s the classic pig that he was given when he was born. The other character banks that he purchased for a $1 that he thought he wanted. However, this is one that he’ll actively use and enjoy looking at.
To make the Teen Titans GO! bank just go to this link and download the template. Choose the Titan that you want to save your money. The supplies: a mason jar, spray glue, a brush, scissors and paint. Paint the glass jar-with the top on. Once it’s dry, cut out an opening in top, this is where you’ll put the coins. Cut out the Teen Titans GO! cut out that you want to affix to the jar, spray the jar with the glue and firmly place it on. Voila-save money and be happy.
Teen Titans GO! vs. Teen Titans is a film that fans of the show will love. It has trademark elements of the show, but takes it to the next level. After a flare up Raven loses control of her inner demon, Teen Titans GO! find themselves kidnapped by someone intent on a competition. They are set to battle Teen Titans, the much more serious cartoon version of themselves in a winner take all competition. What ensues after that is a multi-verse where Teen Titans of all sort have the opportunity to meet each other, battle evil and debate about which version of Robin is more serious or possibly cute.
The film is very satisfying. As a fan of show and a long time comic book fan Teen Titans GO! vs. Teen Titans has enough classic references to keep old school fans happy. Those Teen Titans GO! fans will also recognize many of these ‘classic’ characters from episodes of the show. The super cool anime-esque version from The Night Begins to Shine are also included in the movie.
Combine the film with the Teen Titans GO! bank craft and you’ll have an afternoon worth of summer entertainment for those dog days when you can’t drag the kids outside. The film is available on Blu-Ray DVD and streaming now.
