Win passes to the Atlanta preview of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

I have an unofficial rule in that I don’t see biographies. If it’s the true story of someone’s life and I’ve heard about it, then there’s really no reason to see the film. I know how it ends and it’s probably just some actor’s hammy performance of how they think that this person did things. I sound like the bitter and jaded reporter in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. This is not a biopic, it’s not the story of Fred Rogers’ life and how he came to create & produce one of the most impactful shows ever on television.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood had been pitched to Tom Hanks multiple times. It was only through a chance meeting at his grandson’s birthday when director Marielle Heller met him that the project’s destiny took shape. She had a couple of ideas and put them in his direction, but nothing was a fit. It was only when A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood was presented to her that it finally became solid. Sure, Hanks had received that script before, but had also turned it down because; despite the obvious excellent casting choice, he didn’t want to portray another real person. Within one week Hanks had signed on to play the classic PBS host, Fred Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

The plot to A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood follows a journalist who is assigned to interview Fred Rogers. The journalist is a bit jaded and has a reputation for edgy, take down pieces. It’s only when he starts talking to Rogers and becomes his friend that he realizes how impactful things are. The movie is based on real events.

The screening on November 13 is also being used to honor National Kindness Day. They’re holding a winter weather collection drive that evening to benefit Foster Cares. If you could bring along a jacket or sweater that no longer fits you that would be appreciated as it seems like a great time to pay it forward.

A bonus that the Fred Rogers Company has put out there is one of his favorite dishes. It’s actually a dish that his grandmother used to make and sounds utterly delicious. It’s Corn Pudding and looks like the sort of thing that kids will eat up without any hesitation. Another bonus is that it’s simple to make.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood opens in theaters on November 22 and I hope to see you at the Atlanta sneak preview of the film on November 13. Winners will be directly emailed their passes and notified of the movie’s start time.
